I’ve had a lot of people ask me what kind of pets I have and I tell them that I have three children! They keep me busy enough. Although I had this wonderful sheltie when I was growing up and I would really love to have another one again someday.

I just adopted my second dog, a greyhound! (retired racer). The adoption meeting was agonizing as my decision was between first 3 of them, then 2…and I kept going back and forth.

I asked my first dog, a German Shepherd to pick one, help me out! So she approached the shy boy who had found a cool spot, sniffed him, turned to the other dog standing next to her, sniffed him, and then looked at me hopefully.

I told her she wasn’t helpful but I appreciated her apparent understanding of my question!😃

I finally decided on the bigger dog, because I want to do nursing home visits, hospital visits, etc., and as the other dog would be more naturally sensitive, I felt that he may not tollerate the work as well as the more outgoing dog. It broke my heart to see my shy boy walk away, and if I could have adopted both I would have!

So here we sit, me in a 2 dog home. We’re about to take our morning walk…see ya other pet lovers!

Wow

Look at all the animal lovers.
Funny, just glancing through the posts I didn’t see any Golden Retrievers, said to be number one on the popular dog list.

I am happy to see the Sheltie lovers. Great breed if chosen carefully and raised right. My favorite. Also love Dobies and Danes.

Not many horse owners. Too bad too, as they are excellent for kids to grow up with. Especially Arabs.

I don’t know if they qualify as pets. I have a suspicision that I’m their pet. 😛

I “have” a couple of chipmunks and a squirrel. I do get the occasional visit by some birds to.

We have 3 cats. They actually think that they own us. Maybe they do.

Four dogs, three cats
  1. Mitzvah; a main coon-cat (mix) grey tabby kitten we rescued on the Eve of Rosh Hasshanah–now 10 years old and small for a main coon cat at 23 pounds
  2. Bruce: an autrainlian shepeard mix 11 years old(“Good Day, Bruce!”)
    3)Calighd (“cay-lee”) a pie-bald female cat all of 5.5 pounds–found as a stray we think half-sister to:
4)Moxie: another stray, short-haired ginger tabby, absolutly fearless, also tiny
5)Angus: 7 year old sheltland sheepdog
  3. Hansel: a tri-color beagle, 8-9 years old
7)Megan: a shetland sheepdog and aussie cattle dog- 1 year old and a bundle of energy

We have a pug named Taylor and a black lab mix named Sherman.

***If I ever get another dog I want a Spinone Italiano. I’ll name him Larry. Those are cool dogs!! 🙂 ***

I have a Siberian Husky named Moja Malenka which means “My Little One” in Polish. I call her Moja, which is pronounced MOYA.

I also have a Painted Turtle named Stinky. 😃

I ALMOST adopted an Arab last winter…he was neglected. But I couldn’t afford a horse, especially a special needs horse that needs rehab. But I did name him “Nickers” because he nickered every time he saw me and he followed me around the pasture. He is SO cute!

But due to the neglect and my inability to financially deal with it…and I did ask questions to the ranch owner about his ownership, hoping to make an offer. (Long story…the horse was actually abandoned there.) He shot back that he knew all the owners and didn’t say any more. Ironically, when he figured out it was me who called the Humane Society he’d gotten a half truth about my wanting a “free horse” and that it would have been a good idea.

How funny…had he been more open with me I’d likely have a horse, if only a “foster” and be bringing more business to his ranch. But instead he banned me for reporting the blatant neglect. Literally this little Arab was skin and bones and all the boarders were terrified of being kicked out if they reported it…so they remained silent.

Sorry…this still stings. But that little horse, if not physically mine, is spiritually mine and St. Francis answered my prayer…the ranch owner has been forced to fatten the little guy up. I hope someone comes along to love him and adopts him into a good home. I would love for it to be me but it’s just impossible right now.

Long story…but does “My” Arab, Nickers, now count as a “pet” even in spirit???

I would say you spiritually own an Arab. I hope you continue to pray for a better home for this poor animal. If God wants it to be you, He will open doors for you.

I wish he was closer to me. I have room and what is feeding one more horse?

At the moment we have an Airedale Terrier named Mist, a box turtle named Bubbles, and a hermit crab named Pinchy.

My daughter would love to have a cat or two but my son was so allergic to the cat we had when he was younger that for now we are a cat free zone.
