What Kind of Stole?

I would like to make a stole for a friend’s ordination. I am getting confused about what kind. I see mitered, gothic, etc. Which kind would be most appropriate if I am giving just the stole? And what color would you suggest? Green because it will get the most use, white…?

May I suggest a violet pocke stole? It will get a lot of use as it will be on hand. There are good images on Google.

I would encourage you to speak to the ordinand BEFORE attempting to make a stole. Priests and deacons are often given vestments in styles that they dislike, so the best bet would be to ask first.

Sorry! “Pocke” = “Pocket” which avoids specific styles or colors and is widely used.

Making a stole is a wonderful gesture.

In regards to color, usually during the ordinary season the priests wears a GREEN STOLE.

If you wanted to make one for Easter, a Lamb woud be sufficient.

I would simply ask the ordinand what they would like/need the most.

I would think either a purple one (for confession) or a white/gold one for occasions like Baptisms, house blessings, etc.
