Reminds me of a story:
A new bride is preparing her first ham dinner. To prepare the ham, she cuts the end off the left and right side of the ham… Her husband watches and asks “Why do you cut the ends off the ham?”… The bride replies “That’s the way Mom taught me to prepare ham”
A month later the bride and her husband go to visit Mom… Mom is preparing ham in the kitchen, so her daughter asks “Why do we cut the ends off the ham”… Mom answers “That’s the way my mother taught me, so that’s the way it is done”
Well, the young bride goes to the living room where her grandmother is watching TV… The bride sits next to grandma and asks “Why do we cut the ends off the ham before we cook it?”… Grandma’s answer “Because it’s the only way the ham would fit in the pan Grandpa bought me when we first got married”
So… This is the kind of tradition to discourage.
