***** DISCLAIMER: Although it might seem like I need more psychological help than spiritual health, this is a serious post. I don’t post stuff like this just for kicks of others. I’m posting so I can get a better understanding of how much imaginations are allowed to run and whether or not I am in the wrong. If your just going to read this post and just laugh at the end and crack jokes, please skip this and God bless you.*****

Two things have lead me up to asking this question. One is seeing a similar post (I think mine is going to be different but not entirely sure) though I left the post confused. The other is something my pastor taught me when confronted by temptation and such. Although not exactly word for word, the general idea was to wrap your temptations and whatnot and to bash them against the Rock of Christ to rid yourself of the immediate temptation. He said he was speaking of a passage though I forgotten which one.

Anyway…

I have an overactive imagination. The way my imagination works is by combining different things into one scenario or sequence, depending on what I am doing or how I’m feeling. Typically involves a lot of non-real instances such characters and objects from favorite anime series, lore and such from games I play, and I always add a music track or two. Sometimes I might switch it up a little bit and add something from the real-world or even a real-world event.

Like I said… overactive. 😊

Without going into too much detail (and possibly scaring you off), my question comes when my mind decides to get sensual. Basically it’ll come to part where I’m with this one girl that the imagination is playing around. The whole sequence was never about love making or sex in general. However, lets say my imagination goes with us maybe under some bed covers though you see us just kissing and that’s about it. But what if there is the encounter were we are having sex? Sometimes I think about the lust/adultery position and therefore “smash” the encounter (see above if your forgot what I mean). Can it be wrong if the encounter is with an individual who does not truly exist, as in have no physical flesh and blood form. And what if say we were actually married in the encounter though in the real-world I’m single?

Sorry if I made your heads hurt. I was actually thinking of going into a little more detail with the sequences so you could get an understanding but I think if I did people would actually leave the post with a headache. If you want a better understanding of what the sequences are like, send a message and I’ll try to get you one out. 🤷

I would say it isn’t as impure as imagining a real person but its still impure. I used to think that this type of stuff wasn’t sinful because the person wasn’t real but it led me to think even worse sinful thoughts.

One is to not have such thoughts…or consent to them…

Instead one needs discipline the imagination…as one of the internal senses
just like one is not to look at impure things with the external senses…

No being in bed…kissing or whatever…

Do not go there…

Have you heard about the studies where athletes “practiced” in thei imaginations and improved (i actually did this myself, too.). So what you imagine has an effect on your body and how it reacts to and thinks about people and things in the real world, right?

So, your fanatsy may involve an imaginary person, but it is training you to react a certain way and think about people a certain way in the real world. Suppose I imagined beating up everyone who looked at me in amcertain way. Pretty soon I would find that my blood would begin to boil every time someone looked at me that way, no?

Don’t try to deal with this sort of thing, or anything, on your own. Use it to get closer to God. Look up a book called Spiritual Combat by Don Scupoli–I’m sorry, I can’t link right now–it helps explain how best to rely on God to fight temptations.

Catechism:

III. The Different Kinds of Sins

1852 There are a great many kinds of sins. Scripture provides several lists of them. the Letter to the Galatians contrasts the works of the flesh with the fruit of the Spirit: "Now the works of the flesh are plain: fornication, impurity, licentiousness, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, anger, selfishness, dissension, factions, envy, drunkenness, carousing, and the like. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things shall not inherit the Kingdom of God."127

1853 Sins can be distinguished according to their objects, as can every human act; or according to the virtues they oppose, by excess or defect; or according to the commandments they violate. They can also be classed according to whether they concern God, neighbor, or oneself; they can be divided into spiritual and carnal sins, or again as sins in thought, word, deed, or omission. the root of sin is in the heart of man, in his free will, according to the teaching of the Lord: "For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, fornication, theft, false witness, slander. These are what defile a man."128 But in the heart also resides charity, the source of the good and pure works, which sin wounds.

The idea is for us Christians to love our Lord sooo much that we try (although sometimes don’t succeed) to keep ourselves busy figuring out (with our great imaginations) what the many things or ways we can express our love to our Lord! Our Lord is so right there waiting!

Couldn’t this be compared to killing someone in a video game and killing someone in real life?

I guess, if you get a sexual feeling out of it then you should find some other romantic situation to imagine, but if it’s all just part of the story you’re imagining, then I don’t see how it’s any different to a romance film.

the church in general throughout history has been opposed to free thinking. so a sinfull thought is really any thought that does no come with church approval or any type of questioning of church teaching.

In my opinion, you should still try to stay away from these fantasies. I sometimes would start imagining how life with my boyfriend would be once/if we get married, and as fun and romantic as it was at the beginning soon my mind started taking those fantasies a bit further and suddenly I found myself going from thinking of me in a white dress and him in a black suit to…well, let’s just say the wedding night.

My point is, this kind of stuff escalates and it does have an impact on how you react to certain things in “real life”. Sure, now you’re imagining non-sexual acts with an imaginary/anime girl…but nothing can assure you that those fantasies won’t start being sexual soon and then maybe the girl will become a girl of flesh and bone in your mind.

Be very aware, and try to stay away from these fantasies. That would be my advice.

Good luck and God bless!
