What Mass do you Attend? (Poll, not discussion)

“Actual statistics” is a bit of a misnomer for this. All I want is real numbers, instead of “suppose”-es.
 
I had to answer other because the categories don’t exactly fit. I am over 35, prefer the OF if it is done reverently with no happy clappy noise, excessive glad-handing at the sign of peace, etc. Otherwise, I don’t prefer the OF.
 
Start with a population poll of CAF. , who lives in what country, or is a cultural native to a specific country.

It can work, but one big variable is native culture. That would even be relevant in such a big country like USA. There is a big Mexican catholic population, an African American catholic population, an incredibly conservative white American catholic population , for example.

The native culture of each of these groups will impact how they worship as it’s the culture they grew up in.

For example, I am Australian, but my native culture is Italian where Catholicism is concerned, because that’s the family culture I grew up in.
My Diocese has an Irish Catholic native culture , because it was founded by staunch Irish catholics, who participated, both clergy and laity, in Australia’s only rebellion.

Both these cultures are different.

When you join Seminary , you will learn about pastoral care from a cultural perspective. It’s a unit most lay ministers also study. It’s quite fascinating.

And has a big impact on the success of RCIA for adults and children.
They must all be introduced to catholic culture, the culture of the church.

I am exactly 35, prefer the Latin OF with the EF as a close second, but attend an English OF about 75% of the time due to work schedule.
 
Non-Catholic who goes to the 10:30 A.M. Mass. I guess I don’t know the difference yet. My parish I attend has Saturday, 8:00, 10:30 services.

Oh and i’m 40.

Is everything (or most everything) in English (or another local language)? If so, it’s the Ordinary Form.
If it’s in Latin, but the priest faces you when he stands at the altar, it’s still the Ordinary Form.
Is everything in Latin (except the homily/sermon), with the priest saying a lot of things quietly, and the priest facing the same direction as you? It’s probably the Extraordinary Form.

Everything is in English and the Priest faces us when he is at the Altar. Last week we had a fill in who sang everything which was a new concept for me,. I liked it.
 
Why are people so fixated on the Latin mass that they need to discuss it every day? Day after day. Week after week.

Technically, I’m not talking about the Latin Mass specifically. I’m talking about many types of Mass! 😛

For those who think they could never appreciate or feel comfortable assisting at the Tridentine Mass, I gently encourage you to watch this video.


I’m struck by how many times the speaker uses the word, “silence.”

Because the Latin Mass is traditional, it is what the Saints heard, and it is beautiful. I also like the silence opposed to a loud piano or guitar, the chants are amazing as well. I think people discuss it so often because it is sort of like a hidden gem of Catholicism these days. They are just trying to share a great experience with others and if they prefer Novus Ordo, nothing is wrong with that.
 
I chose other because I attend the ordinary form mass and I like it but since I have never been to the extraordinary form mass I can’t say I prefer it. It would also be nice to attend an EF mass but probably not on a regular basis.
 
I am under 35 and I attend a Maronite rite Mass but it kind of is similar to a OF Roman Mass. I would like to attend the EF. There is actually a parish that has latin Masses but I keep forgetting or I get a bit shy about going to a new parish.
 
I clicked Other. I’m (just) over 35 and attend the Ordinariate Use Mass. During the week I may attend Ordinariate Use, OF or EF depending on the day of the week and where I am.
 
Are you suggesting there is much greater enthusiasm for the TLM among it’s adherents than there is corresponding enthusiasm among the EF-only Mass folks for their preferred form?
