I just moved into a pretty small parish and there is nothing for the mom’s. There are “Circle” groups, but they are mainly the older crowd. Which I don’t mind, but it would be nice to talk about something else (with all do respect) besides how so-and-so’s surgury went or who’s funeral is this week.

I don’t know what I’m looking for, really. But just some ideas of what everyone had going on in their parish.

Thanks

**Could you possibly post an ad in the bulletin stating that you are starting a mom’s group and any interested mothers should call you? Maybe then you could just start out doing playgroup dates at your home and then rotate w/ the other mom’s homes or something? Just a thought. 🤷 I know how you feel. We did have a mom’s group at our parish this past year. However the ladies in charge are retiring from being the leaders since they have done it for the past 3 years. So they are looking for new women to step up to the plate and take over and plan the monthly meeting. It only took place one night a month. But still required planning of guest speakers, etc. Where in KS are you located?? **

Ah the life of a military wife. We just transferred to shore duty in CA as my DH is Navy.

Most mom’s group’s, women’s group’s, etc are for the spanish speaking in my parish. Also the baptism prep classes etc. However they do have one english catechism class for my kids. A few english masses, but very few, and even Pentecost didn’t bring out many parishoners, so even if there was a group of mom’s I could gather, they are not attending english mass. Of course I am near two bases so I can go to mom’s groups there - which is an option for you. Maybe. Unless your husband is on recruiting duty.

My parish has a school, and since it’s summer I don’t know if they have mom’s groups through there. We moved here AFTER they were enrolling and testing students. In this state all children can attend catholic schools. It’s kinda like charter schools, they accept the best testers, most intelligent etc. They say that the members of the parish are first on the list – BUT – if your children are not tested a good 10 months before the next school year you can forget it. They MIGHT have room for one child, but not another in a different grade. VERY frustrating. 🤷

So maybe you could start a mom’s group. I am sure all it’ll take is a talk with the priest or the priest’s assitant and an announcement in the bulletin. You might have to ask for a time at the church hall in the week, middle of the day. Bet you aren’t the onyl mom who’s looking to connect!

Well, I do go to CWOC (Catholic women of the chapel) on post and that is great. But I want to connect with people at my parish since I don’t go to Mass on post. Our parish does have a school, too and luckily my kids can go there without any problem.

Maybe I’ll just put something in the bulletin and see what happens. And start out as a playgroup as Mamacita suggested.

I’m still open for suggestions from anyone else.
