a LITTLE TRIVIA HERE:
SPLENDOUR IN THE GRASS was indeed Warren Beatey’s FIRST film and one of the
best he ever did. The movie did not win any awards, but it has been written and said that if
the movie were out now, it would run away with Academy Awards for Best everything. I do
agree.
More trivia. Did you know that upon retiring from movies, Jimmy Cagney, Fred McMurray,
Edward G. Robinson and one other whose name I can’t recall, moved to 29PALMS, CALIF.?
I know this because they were my Uncle’s neighbors. Wonderful people
We boast to being the home of Philip Seymour Hoffman. He was a tragic person who was
a victim of todays drug world. We would often see him in our Wegman’s shopping with his
Mom. He came in for the holidays with his wife and children and was so friendly with anyone
who went up to him. Not a handsome man, but that is what made him such a great actor. He
could assume any role and BE that person.
Robert Foster is another of our native sons. He comes back to visit quite often.

An interesting thing happened to me while making this list. In compiling it, I noticed that my favorites to watch over and over tend to be more action-y flicks, but that’s not really my favorite genre; I rather prefer dialogue driven, character study films. Just found that peculiar.

The same thing happened to me. I just realized half my list was 80’s action/sci-fi movies. But if you asked me before, I wouldn’t have said that was my favorite genre. I also prefer dialogue driven films more.

But apparently those aren’t as entertaining to me as spaceships and explosions. 😛

I too am a movie junkie, so this is extremely difficult. Here goes…

(in alphabetical order)

“All About Eve”. Stellar cast. Biting, razor sharp dialogue.
“Brief Encounter”. Possibly the most romantic movie ever made.
“Casablanca”
“Gone With the Wind”
“Hamlet” (1948). Laurence Olivier version. Arguably the best performance ever on film.

Narrowing it to five is almost impossible as there are probably 5 on the bubble.

I could probably do 5 of each genre.
 
  1. The Gold Rush (I just recently discovered this movie, so its place in my top five may be temporary.)

I don’t like movies very much. But these are the ones I watch over and over again, or that I would watch over and over if I had the time:

I cannot limit to just 5, but off the top of my head I will always stop and watch these musicals if I flip past them on the dial, in no particular order.
