“The Passion of the Christ,” however, kills me. I find it esp. wrenching when the Holy One falls under the weight of the Cross and the Blessed Mother flashes back to Him falling as a Child.
Yes! That scene gets me too. And the scene where Peter breaks down after betraying Him.

Definitely Passion Of The Christ

and Bella.

“I am Sam” with Sean Penn playing a retarded man who was trying to retain custody of his daughter was a real tear-jerker. Wonderful story, wonderfully acted. Wasn’t Dakota Fanning the daughter? Loved that movie.

Not many films make me cry.

One that definitely does, however,
is the 1972 original tv movie version film called BRIAN’S SONG,
starring James Caan and Billy Dee Williams
as football greats Brian Piccolo and Gayle Sayers.
Basically, Piccolo’s career is just starting to really take off,
and he is stricken down with fatal Cancer of the Heart. True Story 100%

I was 11 when that tv movie premiered, and it tore my
heart right out of me, and it still does. All I have to do
is hear the musical score and I start to sob.

Great film, and the re-make from a few years ago by the Disney Company
isn’t a bad re-make, but the original version with Caan and Billy Dee Williams
will always be the best.

Last night we watched “Taking Chance” with Kevin Bacon. The clerk at Hastings warned me there wouldn’t be a dry eye in the house. She was right.
My husband and I watched it last month and loved it. Nobody I’ve mentioned it to has heard of it, other than the friend at church who mentioned it to me.

A friend and I saw “Departures” (Academy Award Best Foreign Language Film 2009) in the theater last week and people were audibly crying all over the theater. We both thought it was beautiful.

Final scenes of “The King and I” and “Cinema Paradiso” always leave me sobbing.

There have been lots of movies, both old and new, that made me cry. But I can’t think of any movie that ever made me cry nearly so much as Brian’s Song (the original).

Amen to THAT !!
That is the best loyal-friendship-tragedy story ever put on film, and yes
the original is the best. The scene at the awards show where Billy Dee Williams
salutes his sick friend Brian is incredibly moving,
“Brian Piccolo is my friend. I love Brian Piccolo.
And tonight,
when you hit your knees,
please ask God to love him.”

Oh my gosh, the tears are welling up already, I better stop.

I will agree that it’s a heartwarming tear when I watch, “Wonderful Life” - but here’s a couple I haven’t seen named yet:
  1. Simon Burch. (If you haven’t seen it, rent it! )
  2. All Mine to Give. I’ve been trying to find this one for YEARS - it’s unavailable. It starred a young Glynnis Johns in one of the title roles - and if you ever hear that it’s available, let me know !
Both of the above movies should have a warning label - not to enter the theater without a box of tissues !

Most of the movies mentioned (at least the ones I’ve seen) have made me cry at one time or another. My baby sister and I are the real “weepers” in the family. Sometimes TV commercials get me! But here are a few I did not see listed:
Beaches - my friend and I thought it was going to be a Bette Midler comedy!
All Mine to Give - a “Christmas” movie from the 40’s/50’s
Brian’s Song - the original made for TV
The Hiding Place
The Land Before Time - when the Mama dino dies!
The Incredible Journey - the original (when all but the old dog return)
I’ve learned to go to the movies with a pocket full of kleenex!
Just checked…“All Mine to Give” is available through Netflix. It is without a shadow of a doubt one of the most tear-jerky movies I have ever seen. Several years ago, during the week before Christmas, I was standing in line at Hollywood Video, and the couple behind me were renting “All Mine to Give.” It was their favorite Christmas Movie!
Just thinking about the movie makes me what to have a good cry!

Dear Just DuckyMom -
I don’t know if you saw my post (if it was before or after - since you mention not seeing this one listed…) but you’re the FIRST person who knows “All Mine to Give”…Thank You ! No one ever knows the film when I mention it - and I would SO love to find a copy of it - have tried but it seems near impossible.

I was so surprised to see that someone else mentioned “All Mine To Give”! No one ever knows anything about this movie when I mention it. I saw it the first time when I was probably Jr. High age (late '60’s) and then a couple of years ago. It has stuck with me all those years. I remember just sobbing and crying until I had to drink some water to make more tears! Boy…they sure don’t make movies like that today!
PS It is a true story. I can’t even imagine having to make those kinds of decisions…although I think we all have entertained thoughts of giving away our siblings at one time or another!🙂
Just looked on Amazon.com, they have the original book “The Day They Gave Babies Away” and the movie “All Mine To Give” (dvd $18.00) The author and screenwriter was the son of the main character.

Dumbo, when his mother is taken away
and of course, Bambi
How Green was my Valley
Lassie Come Home
I remember hesitating about taking our daughter to see “Lassie Come Home”. I was sure she would be traumatized. Guess who wound up sobbing.😃

My husband and I just watched “The Scarlet and the Black” with Gregory Peck and Christopher Plumer. The most tear jerking scene was when Monsigneur O’Flarity? (Peck) sneaked into the prison in Rome to comfort his captured friend Vincento, a brother priest. When he gave the rosary to Father Vincento who was being sent to a concentration camp the next day, the tears were flowing.

Great movie, made in the OLD style and based on a true story which happened in the Vatican during WW II and the German occupation of Rome. The book, The Scarlet Pimpernel of the Vatican is the name of the book it was based on.

Oh yes, Dumbo and Bambi. As a 3-4 year old, I cried my eyes out. Also “Old Yeller”. I refuse to watch that one again. I was in my thirties ?? when I saw that one. More sensitive than a self involved 3-4 year old, I guess.

When I was little I bawled like a baby when I saw the end of “The King and I” when the King of Siam dies.

These days I’ll cry at the end of “Return of the King”. Once those banners pull back revealing a smiling Arwen all dressed up for a wedding, I just CRY NONSTOP through the “farewell scene” and well into the end credits because for some reason the song makes me cry too. Every single time without fail. I’ll even watch the ending by itself just to see if I won’t cry. But I do every single time.

It’s rather embarrassing. :o

Speaking of Disney, I cried several times during:
Pinoccio - The Scene where Lampwick turns horrifically into a Donkey, and Pinoccio grows his own donkey ears and a tail. One of the Scariest and saddest movie scenes of all time was in a Kids flick!

The Little Mermaid - I don’t know why but I always feel a little teary in the scene where Ariel sells her voice to ursula… perhaps because it’s a metaphor for her soul.

The Lion King - Stampede sequence… almost outdid Bambi’s simular parent death scene in terms of emotion, and did outdo it in terms of epicness.

Any movie that has an animal that dies, I can barely watch.

Rocky
Braveheart
United 93
The 2004 Boston Red Sox DVD
Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith

:o
I prefer the old black + white non-musical version “Anna and the King of Siam” - once you get past all the Western actors playing Thai people. Rex Harrison’s performance is good though - makes the King much more human and much less of a comical stereotype, and makes his death scene much more touching.

Perhaps as an ex-soldier I’m a little dysfunctional (or have different buttons to push), but here goes:

We Were Soldiers
Gladiator
The Mission
300
Das Boot
Ben Hur
The Seventh Sign
Saving Private Ryan
The Passion of the Christ

The Mighty, the end made me cry very very hard.
Ladder 49, it’s just so sad, you know what’s going to happen the whole movie, you just can’t help but cry though at the end.
Wide Awake made me tear up.
Same with The Sixth Sense
Up made me cry so hard.
Return to Me, I always cry at the beginning when his wife dies and he’s trying to hold himself together and then finally loses it when he tells his dog that his wife isn’t coming home anymore.

Embarrassingly enough, I also teared up at the beginning of the new Star Trek movie, I just thought it was unbearably sad and touching when his wife has just had a baby and the captain is going in for a suicide move in order to save everyone. He keeps talking as if he’s going to be there with her up until the end.

I know I’ve cried at more, those are just the ones I can think of for now.

Passion of the Christ
Marley and Me
Turner and Hooch
Old Yeller
The Fellowship of the Ring
The Crow
Braveheart
