What movies move you emotionally?

I’ll have to say that if they’d have left out the TOTALLY unnecessary and over-the-top sex scenes in “The Notebook”, that would have been one of my all-time favorite movies. The scenes where Noah and Allie are in the nursing home had both me and my husband sobbing in the theatre, but the other scenes just make it too uncomfortable to watch… too much lust overshadowing the love.
 
I posted on this already but I just remebered one when I watched it the other night…Fried Green Tomatoes. That has to be one of my all time favorite movies. I just break down in tears everytime I see it!

Just what I was about to say! My husband and I watched it the other night and I thought it was great!
 
The most beautiful movie I have seen is “To dance with a white dog”. Hume Cromyn and Jessica Tandy are have the lead roles.
You have to see this if you haven’t already.
 
The Pianist was definatly one for me. Before I saw it the holocaust seemed so far away, so unreal because I couldn’t even imagine people being so evil to each other. That movie made me cry and gasp in horror in soooo many places, its something I’ll never forget or take lightly again.

Also the movie Angels in America touched me. The story within it is so painful yet hopeful at the same time. I’m sure most people here though think poorly of it though because of the subject matter.
 
I forgot to add the first Legally Blonde and the two first Back to the Future (all of these 3 movies are so funny… :rotfl: )

My Flesh and Blood-A documentary about a women who has 13 adopted children, many with disabilities…there is a scene in the bathroom with Anthony that had me sobbing
Sister Helen-Another documentary about a nun running a kind of halfway house for men dealing with substance abuse…imagine Mother Teresa crossed with Judge Judy…the end had me sobbing
 
An independent film called “A Texas Funeral.” (It was on TV last night on one of the cable channels.)

It should be a stage play, but you can’t put the entire state of Texas on a stage.

It’s a black comedy? (not sure of the genre, but that’s as close as I can call it) that includes themes about mental illness, abortion, parenting, marital love, family loyalty, and eternity. And IMO, all of these things are dealt with using a God-centered universe, not a man-centered universe.

The abortion plot was especially touching, and I cried and cheered out loud when the women chopped down “the abortion tree.”

It is one of the most creative and imaginative screenplays I’ve ever seen. It involved a family in Texas who breed camels. Now that ought to tell you something right there! This isn’t a typical Texas movie about bars and cowboys and shootouts and buxom babes with hot pants!

I can see why it never succeeded at the Box Office. It’s a cerebral movie. It’s also a very beautiful movie. The first time I watched it, I sat and cried at the ending. (And usually, I hate movies and feel like I’ve wasted two hours of my life after I watch one!)

My favorite actor stars in the movie (Robert Patrick, the star of “Terminator 2: Judgement Day”), and in at least one interview, he says that “A Texas Funeral” is his favorite movie that he’s ever been in.
 
“My Dog Skip”

We had the best family cry after that movie. Then we laughed uproariously at ourselves.
 
My Dog Skip is a real tear jerker, especially after the kid goes away to school and Skip sadly lays on his bed all forlorn. And then when he talks about Skip passing away. Gets me right here.

Does anybody remember BRIAN’S SONG,
the 1972 TV movie with James Caan and Billy Dee Williams as footballers Brian Piccolo and Gayle Sayers? That one used to rip me apart. The story is incredibly moving, and add to it that theme music and I’d sob like a maniac.

Yeah I remember the movie I cried and cried, and named our son Brian after him in 1974.
I liked Titanic to me is an epic.

The struggles that the young priest has with his homosexuality while still trying to reconcile himself with our faith is very moving. I raged along with him as he shouted to the crucifix for guidance and answers, especially when confronted with an evil man who was molesting his daughter and told him so in confession, knowing that he cannot break the seal. And that very emotional final scene in the communion line just moved me to bawling tears like very few things have.

Most are appalled by this movie and what has been writen about it, and it is definitely not for everyone, but I found it to be very faith-affirming and actually helped me in the re-discovering of my Christian faith.

You may like “The Third Secret” is also about a priest and while I was watching it on TV the other day I didn’t want to finish but made myself and then realized that this is a miracle and the movie shows how human priests really are and there are many miracles in the movie if you look. At first it seemed blasphomas but then it is really real and wonderful.
