What must a person do to be saved?

Be baptised, Catholic, and die in a state of grace.
It’s not necessary to be Catholic. A person may receive valid Christian Baptism from a non-Catholic on his deathbed, for example, and be assured salvation (and this would be true even if he knew the truth of the Catholic Church, but no Catholic minister was available).

Baptized protestant children who die before the age of reason are assured salvation.

The 100% guaranteed way to achieve salvation is to receive Baptism and die in a state of Grace. The first part is easy for everyone, but the last part is uncertain if you do not have recourse to Sacramental Confession.

Peter was the stone, Jesus was the rock in the original Greek.
All the disciples founded Churches 500 of them to begin with,
Unified under the Bishop of Rome. 🙂
Jesus said 2 or 3 people gathered in my name are a Church.
Read it again. The word “Church” does not appear in that verse.
Jesus also ended religion when he not only kicked out the money lenders but the sacrificial animals too.
 How do you get that? That wasn’t religion - that was simony. And it’s still a mortal sin even today.

On the Cross he ended the Old Covenant, but by means of the blood and water that poured forth from His side (as second Adam) He gave birth to a new Covenant - the Holy Catholic Church. 👍

I had been wanting to ask the same Question the OP asked and now you have answered it for me. I want to sincerely thank you for this. Being raised Protestant I never really fit in and I was never saved as in their terms. Me and my Husband want to join the Catholic Faith. We feel very led to and we are going to be meeting with a local Priest about RCIA classes. Again Thank You! 🙂
Don’t do it; Listen to Fallow Spirit see what John say “John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” All the above comments bar Fallow Spirit are trapped by a religious spirit God didn’t save the catholic but the world look for God not religion it’s about Him not the church!

Did Jesus die on the Cross so that people could just randomly make stuff up about Him? NO.

He established the Catholic Church on Peter and the Apostles to pass on His teachings and His rituals and ceremonies in a logical, orderly manner that remains the same from generation to generation. He said to the Apostles, " “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, (His Sacraments) and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. (Doctrine) And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

He passed His authority to the Apostles. They founded the Catholic Church. The Catholic Church continues to obey His great commission, by continuing to offer the Sacraments of Jesus Christ, continuing to teach and obey right doctrine, and by worshipping Christ in His Tabernacle.

These are not Catholic priests or even mainstream non-Catholic Christians. They are these money grabbing fake tv ministers.
Jesus say
Joh_7:24 Do not judge by appearances, but judge with right judgment."
Hears a new non bible proverb just for you
Better to be touch by the hand of a TV preacher then a catholic priest
Am not condoning some people’s action (TV Preacher’s) most do great work for the kingdom of God
So you might want to have a go at non-christian evil, where all on the same side

Hi,

I am a new seeker of God. I have a fundamental belief (I’m pretty sure). However, I am not affiliated with any denomination – not Catholic or Protestant. I am genuinely curious to know what a Catholic Christian believes a person needs to do to be saved/go to Heaven after life on this earth?

Thank you for replies.
yOU LOOK ON 1CORITHIANS 10:9-10.you need to have a personal relation with GOD ,even if your affiliated witha certain denomination.

Welcome Seeking,

Its pretty simple I think. We believe what Christ told us the answer to this question through His conversation with the rich young ruler, when the ruler asked the same question you ask. Jesus said, obey the Commandments and follow me. He specifically told the ruler to sell everything first and follow Christ in His mission. We interpret that to define what it really means to make Christ ones Lord and savior. We must be willing to give up our lives in love for Christ our Lord and follow His will. And His will does include following His moral Code, the 10 commandments, as well to hearing His direction for our lives through the discernment of the Holy Spirit’s urgings. This all presupposes a faith in Christ as God and savior. But faith does NOT just mean belief in Christ as God, but rather faithfulness. The Sacraments, devotions and disciplines are all intended to give us the grace to be obedient to Gods will. We may not necessarily be sinless, but with Gods grace, we will continue to seek holiness. And lastly , we believe the Bible when it says . nothing holy will enter heaven. And “holy” does not just mean an “imputed” holiness through Christs death and resurrection, but our own actual holiness merited through Christs grace flowing through us from the sacraments, our prayers and reading of scripture. While we may not be perfectly holy while on earth, we do believe in the ancient belief in a period after death where we are cleansed of all our sins to make us truly holy for heaven. Purgatory is the place where that cleaning happens to people who will go to heaven but are not quite cleansed of all their unholy ways, so that we may become holy as the Christ commands us to be holy to enter heaven. We object to the notion that those who live a sinful life un repentant manner, even if they profess their faith and discipleship of Christ, will have eternal life.

He also by his blood rent the curtain in 2 - interestingly from top to bottom - in the Holy of Holies thereby opening the way to Heaven for us without any mediator for a direct personal two way relationship with God.

I hope you hear him personally too 🙂

Ahh, the old “Petros” “petra” controversy?

Hasn’t this been dispelled sufficiently after all the discussions?

Here’s a nice, easy to understand discussion from Tim Staples:
Bam! Bam! The “Pebbles” Argument Goes Down

I suggest it is well intentioned but Biblicly way off the mark with the greatest respect. Is that a creditable news source?
If you Google “Pope Francis - You don’t have to believe in God,” you will get 8-plus pages of articles on the pope’s controversial statement. Notwithstanding, there is a good editorial at spectator.org/blog/2013/09/12/no-the-pope-didnt-say-you-dont, which is pretty effective at placing pope Francis’ words in context.

OK folks, it appears fundamental in this thread that in order to be saved and ultimately get to heaven, one must at least believe in God. Given that, how in the world do we handle this:

Notice that not once does he say that atheists are guaranteed to go to Heaven. What he says is, it is possible (and desirable) for atheists to follow their conscience and do what they know is right to do, and that we trust in the mercy of God for all who are living according to the best that they know.

Ultimately, our salvation is up to God. We can’t control the outcome. What we can do is learn as much as we can about His laws, and follow them to the best of our ability according to our state in life.

Didn’t Paul tell us that the commandments were given to show men their sinfulness and need for a Savior, our tutor 'till Christ came, and that no flesh will be justified by the law?

Salvation is not merely being saved, it is firstly being justified by believing and inviting Jesus into our hearts, That Guarantees going to Heaven, rather than a 1000 year spell in hell followed by death forever. The second part of Salvation is sanctification by the Holy spirit in cooperation with us and finally Glorification when we meet our Lord as we cannot enter Heaven being unclean, but equally we need to know Jesus. We will be Glorified if we work in harmony with the Spirit, but the basic thing is to Believe that Jesus is Lord and that we are sinners and do our best to genuine repent. Repentance is not merely being sorry, but also making a decision not to commit that sin again and then the Spirit helps us to become stronger against it. However ultimately, we know that none reach perfection because only Jesus was worthy to open the scroll and lived a perfect life,
