What must one love to be a Roman Catholic?

I’d say you need a passion to worship God in the FULLNESS of faith. To love Truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.🙂

God above all else, which leads to doing His will which leads to everything else, truth and peace that surpasses all understanding.

MARK, 12

28-One of the scribes came up, and when he heard them arguing he realized how skillfully Jesus answered them. He decided to ask him, “Which is the first of all the commandments?”

29-Jesus replied: “This is the first:

‘Hear, O Israel! The Lord our God is Lord alone!

30-Therefore you shall love the Lord your God
with all your heart
with all your soul,
with all your mind,
and with all your strength.’

31-This is the second,

‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’

There is no other commandment greater than these.”
32-The scribe said to him: “Excellent, Teacher! You are right in saying, ‘He is the One, there is no other than he.’
33-Yes, ‘to love him with all our heart, with all our thoughts and with all our strength, and to love our neighbor as ourselves’ is worth more than any burnt offering or sacrifice.”
34-Jesus approved the insight of this answer and told him, “You are not far from the reign of God.” And no one had the courage to ask him any more questions.

Incense!
Candles!
Fish!
Bingo!
Franciscan Brown!
Small beaded objects!
Medals that go clankity clank as you walk around!
Palms!
Fasting!

Of course, you had better love God and your neighbor, too.🙂

Atonal music? 🙂

Personally, I love:

Christmas Eve Mass
Easter Morning Music
Wreaths of any kind
Uniformity of mass (ie: sit stand sit stand sit stand kneel stand leave)
Nuns (well there have been a few who I would have driven over but I chalk my distaste up to a final from hell)
Being a wise acre to a priest who I know hates me 🙂
Being a wise acre to a priest who I know loves me 🙂
Having a favorite saint (we bribe St. Anthony with a twenty and another one to come if he gets something done for us in my house)
Little rhymes for lost items ( If somethings lost and can’t be found, Ask St. Anthony to look around! Tony Tony Find my keys, theres some money in it for you if you please)
That it’s a place of solace when there is great sorrow, and a place of great joy in happy times.
Counting angels in my church during particular obnoxious homilies that ruin movies.
The candy the priest who loves me sneaks to me every time he sees me. I swear he must have a 25 year old stash of fireballs just for me.

Medals that go clankity clank as you walk around!
Four (St Joseph, St Benedict, Miraculous Medal and the one below) and a crucifix at last count - sometimes a Rosary ring on my chain as well so I don’t lose it when it’s not in use.

Here’s a pic of the latest, bought just a few hours ago:

The thing that makes me really tragic is that I didn’t buy it out of any particular devotion to the Infant of Prague, but because I fell in love with the Sacred Heart image on the reverse ❤️ :whacky:

:yup: :amen: and in that order.

One can see that this is a balance to faith only.

One must not fall into Quietism (one act of love saves us)!

The point is helpful. One act of faith, nor just faith cannot save.

One act of love, nor just love cannot save.

The rope of salavtion has many threads.

Almost, if not all are mentioned already, so I just add, Blessed Virgin Mary… and… Me!! Me!! Me!! (As your neighbour in CAF) 😛 Sorry, feelin’ cranky at the moment.😃

The Truth, Jesus Christ. plain and simple The Holy Trinity, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. Loving thy neighbour as thy self, have love amongst yourselves, pick up your cross and follow Him.

Love of the Church which was passed down to us by Christ Himself. Following His commands, and living a Godly life.
Attending the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.

Love of charity, and love of helping your neighbor in distress.
Love of prayer. Love of the fact that Jesus is True God and True Man, and desire to share the truth which is Jesus Christ with others.

Love of the right to life.

I can tell you what kind of love I have as a Catholic. The love of God first and foremost, the Son, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost. Love of the True Church, love of my neighbor, love of
charity, love of humbleness, love of life, love for the Blessed Virgin,. love of the Sacraments, and love for the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.

Being Catholic is so easy, and so wonderful that it deeply enriches ones life, both spiritually, morally, and more!

Catholics have the burning desire to protect life, and that for me is truly wonderful. The Church is wonderful, we have Christ’s Vicar on earth, the pope.

We have a rich history that is 2000 years old, and we know we have the Truth. We believe in apostolic succession.
For me, there is no other greater love than Jesus Christ.

Ah, but the 2nd Commandment is “love thy neighbor as thyself.”

That adds “thyself” to the list.
Hi,
IMHO what thyself means here is that God knows how much we love ourselves because of our selfish ways. Think about it for a minute. Everything we do obviously directly impacts us, so when we do things we are not going to do something that would cause ourselves harm–right? That is because we love ourselves and want to preserve ourselves at all costs. We want to do right by us and make sure what we do will make us happy or protect us.

That is the love God wants us to show to our neighbors.😃

The Blessed Sacrament! If you love Jesus that much you can received him during Mass.

Thanks all for a great list!

May I add in no particular order:

Truth
Beauty
Jesus
Mary
Children
Saints
my fellow man
Communion
Confession
God’s Mercy
Grace
Baptism

Although I suppose some of these are really the result of being Catholic.

Maybe the question could be asked in a slightly different way:
Catholicism helped you fall in love with what?
