Lol when I was serving a baptism I was the holding the names for the priest to read and what i saw made me laugh (not that loud) the names said selpon and tsarger (cellphone and charger) they were twins even father laughed at how ridiculous parents are naming their kids this days

Leslie didnā€™t used to be a womanā€™s name. My grandfather was Leslie. His friends all called him Les. Bob Hopeā€™s original name was Leslie. How about Leslie Howard the actor? That said, once the name became more feminized, my family continued to use it but on girls.

Back in the twentieth century, Leslie was for boys and Lesley for girls. Like Francis and Frances.

Biff, Chad, Jodi, Cory, Bernley . If you have a relative, friend, son, or otherwise sorry in advance. That possibility comes with threads like this!šŸ˜®

Not questioning the name in an of itself. It is just that kids can be cruel when they are younger and Iā€™d stay away from a name that can be considered a girlā€™s name, just to spare a young boy a lot of grief from the bullies.

I knew about the Francis/Frances but not about Leslie/Lesley. Interesting - thanks so much.

Youā€™re welcome! But like I said, that was in the last century, when keeping boysā€™ and girlsā€™ names clearly distinct was considered a desirable thing to do. Thereā€™s been a big shift in family values since then.

Even though Adolph is a really nice name, it would be just wrong to name a kid that now.

Try a long tongue-twisting Polish name.

When Iā€™m asked for my name when ordering food, I reply ā€œGrzegorz Brzęczyszczykiewiczā€. When asked how that is spelled, I reply ā€œJust like it soundsā€. I then say, ā€œJust call me Danā€.

For those who donā€™t know the reference:

So, my kids have been in a daycare for a few weeks. For the most part, itā€™s been fine, but apparently there is a new kid named Axel, who isnā€™t particularly pleasant to be around. His name is also particularly hard for toddlers and preschoolers to pronounce. They canā€™t get the k-s combination, so they just drop the k. As a result, the kids all call him Asā€“ole. So, apparently Tuesday was a particularly frustrating day, because my 4yo told everyone at baby gym who would listen that she has a new boy in her class and she canā€™t stand that Asā€“ole. I kept trying to get her to stop talking about it, but she kept rehashing how he pushed her and she shouted, ā€œGet off of me, Asā€“hole!ā€ and he took her breakfast pastry and she said, ā€œGive that back, Asā€“hole!ā€ and he made a mess in the sink and the teacher said, ā€œStop it, Asā€“hole!ā€ Occasionally my 2yo interjected, ā€œDat bad, Asā€“hole!ā€ All the parents kept giving me a judgey look. All I could do was reiterate that the childā€™s name is Axel.
