I know of a situation where a couple who were “nominally” Catholic left the Church and were baptized in the LDS, along with their minor children. Now 30+ years later the children are grown adults and chose to be Confirmed Catholic some years ago and atleast one of them is an active Catholic. I am not sure but suspect that the parents have not been to Confession/Reconciliation or recieved Eucharist all these years. If the parents wish to return to the Catholic Church, how do they need to go about it? And are they in a state of Excommunication? What about the children who only did what the parents told them to do when they were baptized LDS–did their Confirmation fix that? Is this a sin that must be specifically addressed in confession or is it covered in a “general confession”?
