He revealed to us that God’s love for us is so great that although we betrayed Him and were unfaithful to Him, He humbled Himself to take a human form and suffered the most painful death in order to free us from the slavery of sin. Furthermore, He commanded us to love one another the same as He has loved us (John 15:12). He also tells us that if we love Him we will keep His commandments (John 14:21). Should not we, therefore, sacrifice our life for even those who hurt us and are unfaithful to us?

We should! 🙂

Jesus was also the embodiment of the ancient prayer of the Psalms that asked God not to hide His Face from His people. Ancient Israel had a very strong notion about the Face of God. For them to know a person, they needed to know that person’s face. That’s why you see so many references to the Face of God in the psalms: Do not hide your face from us…We seek the face of the God of Jacob… When Jesus was born, God, in essence, took on a Face (as well as a body, of course). Man could speak to God because He became one of us.

Jesus is also the final word uttered by God. He is the Word Made Flesh who pitched his tent among us. He is the essence of Divine Revelation. In Jesus, God says everything he ever intended to say. This idea is heavily espoused by Pope Benedict XVI and shows up in his books as Cardinal Ratzinger, especially the God of Jesus Christ.
