What? No Big Hero 6 Thread?

Thread title says it all. (Just watched the movie last Friday and it was just adorable. ) Anyone else watched? Think there’ll be a sequel?

Took my nephew this weekend. What a great movie! I would happily see it again.

I haven’t seen it yet and not sure if I want to. I’ve been really unimpressed with Disney’s most recent movies, especially Frozen, but my family went to see it and said it was better than Frozen so maybe I will go see it. I haven’t decided yet.

I went with my two girls, we all enjoyed it. Much better than Frozen in my opinion, although it had its problems. The motivations of the villain, once his true identity is revealed, don’t make much sense; and that takes away the dramatic impact of the whole second half of the movie. In my opinion the first half of the movie is much better; very creative and enjoyable on several levels. The second half slips into routine action-hero stuff which is pretty predictable.

It was interesting to see how they re-envisioned the San Francisco of the future as a mostly Japanese city (renamed San Fransokyo) - the torii-style arches on the Golden Gate Bridge for example. Lots of nice eye candy.

A very good movie, yeah it was formulaic in a way, but very well executed. On a par with ‘How To Train Your Dragon 2", which I thought was very under-appreciated, at least in the US. (although some scenes might have been a bit scary for little ones). A kids’ movie that I bought as soon as it was available. I agree with someone else that Big Hero 6 was better than Frozen, but that’s a personal opinion FWIW.

I wasn’t aware of the comic book/series it’s based on. My son was though, and given that the series was based in Tokyo, the Tokyoisation of San Fran I guess made sense to market to US audiences, but I think they probably could have stuck to the comic-book Tokyo setting and done just as well…

I’m of the same mind, particularly with regards to predictability. Although, I have to wonder if it’s really because I know too much and have seen too much to say that any plot can surprise me anymore.

One of thing’s for sure though, I’d sooner listen to Immortals over that main song in Frozen whose very title gets on the nerves of my never-say-die attitude. XP

I actually love that fusion. I guess it’s because I’ve consumed popular fiction from both Japanese and American pop culture. I haven’t read the comics either but I do know that there can be firm distinction between a modern Tokyo setting and a modern American setting. (And no, don’t even get me started on how high school and college are portrayed in either. )

Funny, the fusion immediately reminded me of Blade Runner. Odd in a way because they’re such different tones, Blade Runner so dark/dreary while BH6 bright, clean and upbeat.

I’m with you on the song as well, really liked Immortals. But I became a Fall Out Boy fan when I escorted my daughter and some of her friends to one of their concerts, ‘Twenty-One Pilots’ and ‘Panic at the Disco’ opened for them and it was overall one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to, all three bands performances were top-notch.
