What NY Sen. Alesi didn’t say: priest who ‘embraced’ him is excommunicated

When New York state Senator James Alesi announced to gay “marriage” supporters recently that his priest “embraced” him at mass after he cast his vote for gay “marriage,” he failed to mention one important point – his priest and his religious community have been excommunicated from the Catholic Church.

“I went to Mass Sunday in my church and I was so warmly received,” Alesi told attendees at an event sponsored by the Human Rights Campaign earlier this month. “It doesn’t matter what religion you are, but I know in my religion, when I went up to receive Communion, my priest embraced me,” he said.

However, the New York Times reports that Alesi belongs to Spiritus Christi Church, which broke with Rome in the 1990s “in order to support gay men and lesbians,” as well as female clergy.

The two clerics at Spiritus Christi are Rev. James Callahan, who was validly ordained in the Catholic Church before his excommunication, and pastor Mary Ramerman. Bishop Matthew Clark of Rochester excommunicated Callahan in 1998 and removed him from his post as administrator from the city’s Corpus Christi Church, according to the group. The entire community was declared excommunicated the following year.

Alesi’s office confirmed to LifeSiteNews.com that the senator was hugged by his priest, but did not answer when asked who the priest was. Spiritus Christi Church also did not respond as of press time.

Alesi, one of the most prominent senate Republicans in New York, voted for gay “marriage” after previously opposing it. Alesi has claimed that he only cast his vote against gay “marriage” in 2009 as a political move, to help Republicans reclaim the chamber in 2010.

What is painful is that I use to attend the church before Jim Callan was excommunicated. Luckily, I left years before this happend and did not get caught up in the hoop-lah
 
Ah! One of those fake Cathoic churches. My uncle attends one of those. The “priests” are an active homosexual and a former nun. They actually go around claiming to be a real Catholic church and tell people their ‘mission’ is validated by Rome. I find it very frustrating. Of course, they’re free to believe what they will, but to lie to people that way and claim they are a real Catholic church is disgusting to me.

thats a shame that “church” (i use the term lightly) that claims to be Catholic is irritating and it dishonors the good Catholic name

The issue with them is that they think the Church is “too slow” and that they are somehow prophetic.

But nonetheless rarely admit that they are not actually Catholic churches but “neo-protestant” ones, perhaps because being thought of as Catholic is still sort of “prestigious.”

Perhaps the Church should sue them for trademark plagiarism? :hmmm:

I say that jokingly, but may theoretically be possible. Well-known corporations have sued other corporations for using similar logos to decieve people into thinking they are a respected brand, using as evidence surveys that indicate what percentage of people actually decieved by the logo. If they were to poll people to see how many actually think that a break-away church is actually Roman Catholic, and a majority say yes, then they could be liable in civil court for falsely passing themselves off as Roman Catholic. Then agai, I’m not sure if that precedent applies to religious institutions.

Well, I’ve seen some of the splinter/associated groups/people of Spiritus Christi that have a table at local arts festivals. From their signage and liturature, they have something to the effect of “Inspired by the Catholic Faith” or wording like that.

I don’t know if this completely absolves them any legal wrongdoing. But certainly, I can see how people could be confused.

No need for that if the leaders of the Church (the House of God)actually warned the people just like the Apostles did. but they are all afraid to speak up and the sheep keeping getting slaughted by the wolves.
