A priest in a local parish curtly says “body” when he gives communion instead of saying “the body of Christ.” This dismays at least one person in that parish. Is this improper?

It’s wrong. the rites came to use in a certain form for a reason. if we “shorthand” them what good is them meaning of them then?

I have heard many priests, esp. older priests, apear to just be saying “body,” however if I listened ***REALLY CAREFULLY ***I could just make out “of Christ” or what sounded like thats whats he was saying. I would guess that the priest is saying “the body of Crist” but he is doing it so fast and quietly that only “body” is what you are hearing.

I used to have an elderly priest make a “holy thumb print” 
on my forehead on Ash Wednesday. He mumbled something (perhaps "from ashes you come and to ashes you will return?)
