Seriously some of you guys use more acronyms than the military. For one, what does DH mean?

To me, it means Designated Hitter.

DH - Dear Husband. DW - Dear Wife; DD - Dear Daughter, DS- Dear Son.

Ah, okay. These terms are used on military.com a lot too and I was confused.

I was thinking that either I don’t understand or people are having disturbingly intimate relationships with their ballplayers. 😉

DF= dear Fiance/Fiancee
FH= future Husband
FW= future Wife

MIL= Mother In Law
FIL= Father in Law
SIL= Sister in Law/Son in Law ( pay attention to context)
BIL= Brother in Law
DIL= Daughter in Law

That’s all I can think of for now

JW - Jehovah’s Witness
SDA- Seventh Day Adventist

Matthew

RCC= Roman Catholic Church
RC= Roman Catholic
CCC = Catechism of the Catholic Church

KJV = King James Version of the Bible

DRV = Douay-Rhiems Version of the Bible

NAB = New American Bible (the official translation of the Catholic liturgy in the United States) - *not to be confused with the *

NASB = New American Standard Bible (which is a Protestant translation of the Bible.)

RSV = Revised Standard Version of the Bible, and of course there is also the

NRSV, which is the New Revised Standard Version.

Then there are acronyms like,

YMMV = Your Mileage May Vary,

MYOB = Mind your own business

BYOB = Bring your own beverages

ROTFL = Rolling on the floor laughing

LOL = Laughing out loud

… and thousands more. I think I have a bookmark somewhere in this mess that lists them all - and I have it - and it’s broken. 😦

And the home site doesn’t have a replacement page for it; they’ve gone all middle-class with tasefully muted purple borders, nice logos, and good manners, with all the words all fully spelled out and stuff.

Dang, anyway. Don’t ya just hate it when a webmaster grows up on ya? 😛

OP: original poster
IMHO: in my honest opinion
or IMO: in my opinion
FYI: for your information

That’s all I can think of that hasn’t already been listed…

Here’s a couple others I don’t think anyone mentioned:

AFAIK: As Far As I Know
IIRC: If I Recall Correctly
TLM: Tridentine Latin Mass
NOM: Novus Ordo Missae, or New Order of the Mass
SSPXL Society of St Pius X, a schismatic traditionalist group

I’ve seen the letters P.H. after some priests name but I don’t see it on any list of ecclesiastical abbreviations unless I missed it. Does anyone know what it means?

thank you.

IOW - In Other Words
KWIM - Know What I Mean
FWIW - For What It’s Worth
OTOH - On The Other Hand
That’s all I can think of now, but I’ll try to get back A.S.A.P…😃

I thought IMHO was In My Humble Opinion

there is also IMNSHO In My Not So Humble Opinion

and who can forget

EF - Extraordinary Form (of Mass)
OF - Ordinary Form
NO - Novus Ordo
EMHC - Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion
PV - Parochial Vicar
USCCB - United States Conference of Catholic Bishops

Thank goodness for this thread… I was completely lost :confused: when I first joined CAF, and it has taken me awhile to figure out the acronyms used. I still didn’t know what IMHO meant until I read this thread.

In argument, NO should be done away with, as should TLM.
The prevailing acronyms should be:

OF- Ordinary Form
EF- Extraordinary Form

I think all members should make a conserted effort to use the terms Our Holy Father gave to the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass in both it’s forms.

And don’t forget, WOEDATAM, which is short for “What on earth to all these acronyms mean”…😛
