What one question are you always asked about being Catholic? What question do you WISH you were asked?

I think, for many of us, the question that is asked of us when people find out we are Catholic is:
Why do you worship Mary/Saints? I know it’s a VERY common question here on CAF, and I’ve suggested it be made into a sticky (not that everyone sees/reads them) :).

I wish it was a different question:
Why do you celebrate the Eucharist as the ACTUAL Body and Blood of Jesus Christ?

Our Faith is enhanced and glorified through honoring Mary, and enriched by the Saints, but it is first and foremost, IMO, about God, especially our Savior our Lord Jesus Christ.

For many non-Catholics, the ‘worship of Mary’ is their view of Catholicism and Catholics. Are we doing ourselves and our Faith a disservice by not making it more ‘out there’ that the Eucharist, the Body of Christ, is one of the largest differences between other religions and ours?

Actually, according to St. Louis de Montfort, the reason Jesus is known more widely is because the Blessed Virgin is not more known and loved.

God bless!

I wish that people would ask me if I loved Jesus.

That would be so easy to answer.

The big three are Abortion, Gay Marriage, and Confession. The typical arguments are “No one can tell me what to do with my body”, “Why wouldn’t you want two people in love to be married”, and “Why do I need to tell some old guy what I did when God knows I’m sorry”.

I wish people would ask more about the history of Christianity, but…

I REALLY wish people would ask me where to sign up 😃

A question I get asked a lot is: Why does the Catholic Church not allow condoms? It has no right interfering with people’s sex lives.

Or, “Why does the Church not allow two unmarried people to have sex? They love each other, so they should be able to do what they want.”

A question I would love to get asked: Any question that doesn’t question the Church’s teachings. A question that is asked out of love for God, not lust for your neighbor.

That would be my dream question. 👍

I actually wish some non-Catholics would ASK me questions about what Catholics believe instead of TELLING me what they know we believe.

The three TOP questions seem to be:

Mary and the Saints

The Primacy of Peter issues

One God= Only One Faith In Only One God founded church issues

The question I would seek:

Why does the CC think it is the “only true church” or someting along this line:thumbsup:

I mostly get asked about the paedophile priests and religious. I can handle that one pretty well, thanks be to God. This is then further expanded to celibacy as a cause which I, of course, support the Church view.

Would you mind sharing just how you do this?

God Bless you,
Patrick

I have heard that too, from an acquaintance. I can’t say I handled it in the most graceful way, although after my look at the person who said it, it was clear that such comments in the way given would not be tolerated in my presence.

Otherwise, I point out that yes, it is tragic and should not be tolerated. I attend Mass in a nearby diocese that has had some major scandals, and that has bled over into the whole community including my diocese. (Metro area/different dioceses)

I don’t remember my exact words, but I know the Spirit guides me to if I should say anything, and what. Generally, it involves facts: it is horrible; coverups are horrible as well, and many have been guilty of them. However, the Church as a whole and at large, is not only these people, no matter their positions. If needed, I’ll tell them while it doesn’t excuse or condone the behavior of the guilty in the Catholic faith, there are many, many others who are guilty who are not Catholic or not leaders; the media however, portrays it differently.

It seems I mostly get asked if my wife and I are going to have about ten more children now that we are Catholic.

I wish I would be asked more about the Sacraments and sacramentals. It seems a shame that people do not know about these wonderful ways to make God a part of their everyday lives in such a physical way.

I posted about how the Catholic church has been referred to as the “true church” a week or so ago! 🙂 I would love to hear about how that conclusion has been made. I am on the very edge of the trail to being to “come home” to what is known as the “true church”! Some of my family isn’t supportive, but I’m following my heart and what God is showing me! Blessings!

I come from a protestant family and I was worried that I was going to get the Mary and Saints questions and I don’t. I just visited my aunt and uncle and my question was about marriage. Somehow we got on the subject of marriage. Actually, they started complaining about their preacher a few minutes of me walking in the door. One of the complaints was how they interpreted marriage and how their church does it. They didn’t understand why the preacher married people who have been previously married. They asked me, “what do Catholics think?” So, I explained. They were like, “wow. That’s how it should be done.” lol. Silly Baptists. They also wanted to know about abortion when it dealt with abuse and the like. They totally agreed with the Church on those things too. I don’t see them going to Mass anytime soon, but they do realize that there are a few topics that they agree with the Church.

I have yet to be asked “normal” questions by my family. My little sister wanted to know about religious life. Actually she said, “what’s up with Nuns?” My brother is on this whole peace kick. He wanted to know what the church thought about war and helping the poor.

  1. The Saints and Mary, perhaps?
  2. this is from memory, so one would have to verify this first…
I remember an anecdote about Mother Teresa asking those she served, if they wanted to know about Jesus? and they would then ask Mother Teresa if Jesus was like her? Or something akin to that. Meaning they were already touched by her charity.

And she replied* “no, I’m trying to be like him”

I hope one day by much prayer and much graces, that can be applied to all of us as individuals in our lives, with who we encounter, either every day from those who know us the most (worst) to people who might meet us only once, that we hope to serve or witness to, in charity.

Hi,
When I was in Portugal Protestants would ask me mostly “why do you worship Mary?”…
Now that I am in Germany they mostly ask me “why does the Catholic Church has so many unbiblical traditions, like Infallibility”, atheists usually ask me “how can you believe in God?”.
God bless,
D.
