Many families are very divided in terms of religion. What other religions do you have in your family and does it cause problems?

Me Catholic, rest of family CofE. This caused a bit of conflict with my mother at first who hated Catholicism and prattles on about the inquisition and such.

1x token secular Jewish uncle
1x token muslim convert 😛 from atheism cousin, rarely seen as he is based in Bahrain.
10+ atheists
5 Seven Day Adventists
4 Anglicans
8+ Church of Nazarenes
3x non-denomination christians (Hillsongsters)

I’ve included my entire extended family who I communicate with and see regularly. Also included christian denominations. 🤷

No problems, lots of heated discussions between SDA rellies and the atheists. The SDA’s try to convert/convince them in every family gathering, the atheists react strongly to being prosletysed and the Hillsongsters and Jew will try to break it up with a joke or distraction whilst the the rest of us continue eating and pretend we can’t hear the raised voices. 😃

In my extended family the majority religion is atheism or non practicing Catholic. The exception is my mother who is a “progressive” Baptist. My sisters were never baptized and their children weren’t raised in any religion.

For the most part we have peaceful relations. Sometimes issues come up with my mother.

I’m Catholic, my grandparents are Pentacostals, my father is Pentacostal and my mother is Lutheran.
Well, I believe that’s it…

Funny. I just realized I have absolutely NO Non-Catholic relatives in my family.
Nearly all of them practicing.

Myself, wife and children - Roman Catholic
my wife’s cousins (in India) - Roman Catholic
Mother - presently Presbyterian.
Brother and his family - Lutheran
Cousins on mother’s side - Methodist
Cousins on father’s side - Southern Baptist

5 Baptists
A whole bunch of former/part time/who knows what kind of Baptists/other Protestants
No Catholics whatsoever. Except me and the kids of course, who are too young to discuss religion anyway.

Catholic
Pro-Catholic atheist
Unbaptized believer in RICA

Everyone else either lives too far away to matter or has passed on from this life. 😦

It is a pretty quiet Christmas. 🤷

Church of God
Assembly of God
Baptist
Born Again Christian
Jewish

At one time, the friction between religions at times has been hard. What has helped is that we generally avoid talking about religion, because we’ll only fight.

Me - practicing Catholic.
Sis living in same house- Jewish Christian.
Son - semi practicing Catholic
Sis’s kids: one athiest, one semi practicing Christian.
My side of the family: deceased brother who was a Priest, 3 mostly practicing Catholic.
Sis’s side of the family, mixture of semi practice Christian and Jewish. (4)

Blessings,
Stephie

Catholic on my mom’s side of the family, but on my dad’s side, Lutheran, Presbyterian, and Methodist.

My father’s family is almost wholly southern Baptist. My mom was raised a Nazarene, but she and my father both became Oneness Pentecostals in the early 1980s. I am the family nut.

Catholic on my mom’s side of the family, but on my dad’s side, Lutheran, Presbyterian, and Methodist.
Wife and her parents are Lutheran, LCMS. Most family I knew have passed, but they were Catholic on my mother’s side, and Methodist on my father’s side. I converted to Catholicism when I was 7. My wife and her mother were lifelong Catholic, but converted to Lutheranism. Wife’s dad was some protestant denomination ( he doesn’t even know what denomination, just says ‘protestant’) but converted to Lutheranism as stated above.

All my family are Baha’i now

My sister in law married a Catholic, but he participates now only in Baha’i activities and service. We encourage him to go to Easter and Christmas mass and accompany him there every year. It’s beautiful to be amongst our wonderful Catholic friends.

.

No non-Catholics in my family. I do have seven uncles, all on my mom’s side, who are priests and twelves aunts and cousins, on both sides, who are nuns, most of them Carmelites. Everyone in my family, as far as I know, is a practicing Catholic. I don’t know how devout everyone is. That is between them and God.

Both sides, non-practicing Catholics, with various degrees of belief in God but who do not or will not attend church. No problems whatsoever, they may ask questions, I ask questions, we both answer, its cordial.

  • Majority Eastern Catholic (Knanaya)
  • Many Syriac Orthodox
  • Many Pentecostals
  • Some Latin Catholics
  • 2 Atheists Cousins
  • 1 Hindu Uncle
  • 1 Hindu Cousin in law
  • 1 Muslim Cousin in law
  • 1 Sikh Cousin in law

My dad was baptized and raised in the same Methodist church that he now attends. He has been there his whole life.

My mom was baptized in the Southern Baptist church, then re-baptized in the Mormon church.

My aunt and uncle both attend an Eastern Orthodox church. She is Catholic, and he is…I’m not sure.

My grandmother was baptized in the Baptist church but later became a Catholic.

My grandfather was baptized in the Methodist church.

I was baptized in the Episcopal Church but now I am in RCIA to learn about Catholicism.

So that makes, (1) Bapto-Mormon, (2) Methodists, (2) Catholics, (1) Unsure and (1) Episcopalian.

Hmm, never gave it much thought before as is never been much of an issue.

Mom - SDA
Dad - non believer (didn’t realize this until a few years ago)
Wife - Catholic
2 cousins - Christian (Not sure which denomination. Doesn’t cont up much)
1 cousin - I’ve never asked or seen any indications which denomination.
2 aunts & 1 uncle - SDA
1 aunt - LDS
Most other family - don’t know, but it rarely comes up.
