Except that the Catholic Church is the Church Christ founded and gave authority to properly interpret and safeguard that proper interpretation of Scripture. Even 2,000 years worth of personal opinions and false claims cannot even touch the Church’s authority, because that authority is divine.
Except that yours is an opinion, too.
Schism has undermined an assurance that your view is certain

In fairness, non-trinitarians persist to this day.

So I guess the Trinity is still up in the air?

And I always get tickled when a mainliner like Jon cites the schism despite being neither Orthodox nor Catholic.

And how does that Church declare matters of the faith?
Councils, historically. Prior to the Great Schism
Hmmm. So the Church could no longer speak universally when the East opted out?

I guess you would consider post declarations by councils promulgated by Rome as heretical then.

So there is no one, universal Church anymore due to schism?! Christ promised that the gates of hell, i.e. heresy and/or schism, would not prevail! Are we to presume that through schism and heresy that the one, universal Church of Christ is a left-over hodgepodge of a universal invisible bond through a variety of denominational confessions?!

Who opted out? Depends on who you ask.

Heretical? Not necessarily. Let’s just say not affirmedby the universal Church.

The East Jon, the answer is the East! 🙂

And then the whole Reformation had no universal affirmation either?

Protestant Theology that is correct is from the catholic church.

Some of Protestant Theology that is incorrect is based on the Bible, but is a result of improper interpretation of it.

Please reference where I said that.

There is only one Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church. Due to human sin, it isn’t unified.
Christ promised that the gates of hell, i.e. heresy and/or schism, would not prevail!
Agreed. And He won’t. It hasn’t, and it never will.

Those are your words, not mine.

I think that is a reasonable explanation of the Catholic view. And said with charity

Does not ‘one’ mean ‘unified’?
Is it unified? In Baptism? Yes.
Are all members that make it up unified? In some ways, but certainly, and sadly, not all.
But Christ’s one True Church is unified in Him, through Baptism.

Luke9. 50And Jesus said to him: Forbid him not; for he that is not against you, is for you.

Ah, and by that nebulous standard we’re still awaiting affirmation by the “universal church” on the existence of the Trinity.

Which is why that standard is nonsense.

Obviously other protestant views as well!

Only in Holy Baptism? Is that what Our Lord prayed for in John 17, “so that they may be one”, but only in Baptism, not in matters of faith and morals? Also, the gates of hell would not prevail over the Church, solely regarding Baptism, but not in doctrine?

I think you need to check your history. The Trinity was affirmed prior to the Schism.
Not by the Gothic Arians of yesterday and the Oneness Pentecostals of today. They claim baptism, Jon. And deny the Trinity.

I’m surprised you didn’t know these groups existed…

Obviously they need quite a heavy duty goal-post-stretcher, but that seems to be their argument.

The Church is either one and unified, or it is not. You cannot have your cake and eat it, too; e.g. it is both one and divided, i.e. we are all one in Baptism, but ‘not all’ unified through our differences on doctrines.

And when was the Canon of Scripture?

What council do Sola Scripturists rely on to know their Bible contents?
