Hi

Any body can help me with some prayers for success in work!
Prayer to saint Joseph?

Thanks

St Joseph is a wonderful saint to pray to for this or any other matter - I personally like the Memorare to St Joseph, which I’ve been praying a lot lately:

"Remember, O most chaste spouse of the Virgin Mary, my loving protector St Joseph, that never was it known that anyone who implored your help or sought your intercession was left unassisted.

Full of confidence in your power I fly to you and beg your protection.

O Guardian of the Redeemer, despise not my humble prayer, but graciously hear and answer me. Amen."

Psalm 100
Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the lands!
Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into God’s presence with singing!
Know that the Lord is God! It is he that made us, and we are his;
we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise!
Give thanks to him, bless his name!
For the Lord is good;
his steadfast love endures for ever,
and his faithfulness to all generations.

“Lord, not my will, but Yours be done.”

Really perfect for any occasion.

Peace and God bless!

Morning Offering–very motivating to work with diligence, if it is contributing to the conversion of sinners, the final penitence of the dying, the completion of the purification of the Holy Souls, and an unleashing of the power of the Holy Spirit in all Christians.

Our Father: Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven: with this petition, desire to do your work, conduct your business righteously as God would desire, all for His greater glory. “A.M.D.G.”

Actually, that’s very St. Joseph! Since he was a righteous man. (Mt 2:19)

Browse the wisdom literature for verses that resonate for you. Proverbs is particularly good. Great nuggets about working hard, avoiding evil, not getting drunk, saving money, etc. Dave Ramsey uses quite a bit of Prv in his Financial Peace University program and daily radio show. Prv 31 is great for the virtuous and productive wife.

Ecclesiastes–not good. “All is vanity of vanities” will tempt you to sloth through futility. It’s a good book to see the fatigue of hope in merely earthly promises of prosperity–part of getting ready for Christ in the “fullness of time.”

If anyone was unwilling to work, neither should that one eat.
2 Thess 3:10 If you need to motivate a slacker/moocher!

If you are the target of gossip, slander, detraction, office politics, or workplace mobbing–I’ve been there, it’s very painful–browse the Psalms asking for vindication from enemies. Ps 140 for example. They should be easy to find if you have a Bible that uses topical headings for the Pss. My St. Joseph edition of the NAB does.

Re our Sunday Gospel reading: we had a guest priest this weekend, while our pastor is on vacation; and the visiting priest is peace and justice person for the diocese. He preached a homily about the sinner woman who came in to Jesus and washed his feet with her tears because she was forgiven much and therefore loved much. Fr. went deeper on an economic level–one could infer that she was a sinner because she was a dispossessed widow or divorced woman turned out; and that her family were dispossessed of their land because of the outrageously high mutliple taxes, tithes, and tributes they had to pay; debts spiral until their land is taken. Her only way to survive is prostitution. Here is Jesus, whose father is a worker of hard materials (carpenter, stonemason, metal perhaps); a laborer. People ran their own farms if they still owned their land, but apparently Joseph was dispossessed and a laborer; working elsewhere, but returning to his family land for the census. The religious and political leaders were wealthy and powerful and oppressed the poor and the widows and the orphans, and became wealthy off them. An OT prophet calls this “eating the poor.” So, here is this amazing rabbi, coming to preach reconciliation and liberation to this perpetually unclean, desperate woman who couldn’t go anywhere near the Temple; and Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount–give to those who ask of you–promised also a new economic relief based on love, for this desperate woman, and it might free her from the prostitution–imagine the depths of her gratitude! And of course, it happened–the sharing of the Christian community in the Acts of the Apostles.

Intriguing! It adds more depth and meaning to the story, not just like she’s some random sinner by choice like a chick on a Girls Gone Wild video. Fr. can get a bit heavy on the economic side, but I don’t think he thought Jesus came to bring us a good economic system. I enjoyed visiting with him at length during the agape feast. I asked him: in your explication of the Gospel today, what about the Jubilee restoration? Slaves freed and land returned and debts forgiven? When did that end? With the Roman occupation? Or would Joseph and Jesus get their land back? Would a woman only be a prostitute for seven years max until the next Jubilee? Fr. said that there is scholarship now saying that the Jubilee restoration never happened. He is writing a chapter for a book on Sabbath economics. We discussed this for a bit, and had an interesting talk about lobbying for a just economic and political system and/or not waiting on systems but personally pursuing generosity and justice. Also about Jesus’ teachings about the rich and how we should live–esp. the Lukan woes and the letter to the church in Laodicea in Rev. It’s a powerful word for America!

Sorry, I’ve rambled. Joseph, if a dispossessed laborer, and a royal descendant of David, worked humbly and diligently to provide for and protect Mary and Jesus. He didn’t curse his bad fortune. What he produced served his fellow man. Work is not a curse; any (legal and moral/ethical) product or service we provide to meet another’s need is a service. It also shares in the creative power of the Creator.

Have fun with your prayers and scripture searching!

Oh, re not keeping the Jubilee restoration–I found in Leviticus 26 God’s threats about what would happen if they didn’t keep the sabbatical years and jubilees. The description sounds like the various wars, oppressions, and exiles that actually happened, especially the first century Jewish-Roman War; so, if you want to consider that “evidence” for not keeping the sabbaticals/jubilees, so be it. It would be interesting to see a side-by-side explication of the foretelling and the fulfillment, Lev 26 - Josephus’ description of the war.

God gave Joshua the recipe for success in Joshua 1: 7 - 9:

7
Above all, be firm and steadfast, taking care to observe the entire law which my servant Moses enjoined on you. Do not swerve from it either to the right or to the left, that you may succeed wherever you go.
8
Keep this book of the law on your lips. Recite it by day and by night, that you may observe carefully all that is written in it; then you will successfully attain your goal.
9
I command you: be firm and steadfast! Do not fear nor be dismayed, for the LORD, your God, is with you wherever you go."

I pray St. Rita and St. Jude for their intercessions daily. Everything at work has been going very smoothly for me.

Both saints are patron saints of impossible and St. Rita is also known as peacemaker.

There is a novena called Suitable Vocations by St. Francis de Sales

St. Francis de Sales, your power as a soldier of Gold lay in your meekness, humility and willingness to heed God’s call to your true vocation of serving His people. Hear our prayers to help us find our worldly path to salvation through a useful profession. Help us use our God-given talents and skills to make the world a more divine place that resounds with praise for the Creator and His plan of salvation. Obtain for us the grace to work conscientiously, putting the call of duty above our many sins; to work with purity of intention and with detachment for self in the service of God’s glory…(mention silently your special intentions). Amen

Said for nine days consecutively once a day.

Psalms 1:1-3
Blessed the man who follows not the counsel of the wicked
Nor walks in the way of sinners,
nor sits in the company of the insolent,
But delights in the law of the Lord
and meditates on his law day and night.
He is like a tree planted near running water,
That yields its fruit in due season,
and whose leaves never fade.
Whatever he does, prospers.

Psalm 20:5-6
May He grant you what is in your heart,
and fulfill your every plan.
May we shout for joy at your victory
and raise the standards in the name of our God.
The Lord grant all your requests!

Angel of God,
my guardian dear,
To whom God’s love
commits me here,
Ever this day,
be at my side,
To light and guard,
Rule and guide.
Amen.

Prayer for Success in Work

Glorious St. Joseph, model of all those who are devoted to labor, obtain for me the grace to work conscientiously, putting the call of duty above my many sins; to work with thankfulness and joy, considering it an honor to employ and develop, by means of labor, the gifts received from God; to work with order, peace, prudence and patience, never surrendering to weariness or difficulties; to work, above all, with purity of intention, and with detachment from self, having always death before my eyes and the account which I must render of time lost, of talents wasted, of good omitted, of vain complacency in success so fatal to the work of God. All for Jesus, all for Mary, all after thy example, O Patriarch Joseph. Such shall be my motto in life and death.
Amen.
