I have a particularly bad memory. I have already made a thread about homemade prayers, but I have been wondering, which formal prayers should one make an effort to remember? As I have said, I have a poor memory, in fact, I even have trouble remembering what the Priest read in Mass. :o Which prayers do you recommend one to make an effort to remember?

If you have issues remembering, it’d be great to have a book of prayers or something printed out that is light and handy to carry.

I think it’s good to know the rosary by heart, though. 👍

All of the prayers of the rosary and the Act of Contrition. You will naturally remember the prayers by saying them often.

I would start with the Our Father and then the Act of Contrition. I think it is important to pray the Act of Contrition every night when you put yourself to bed.

Ejaculatory prayers, such as “My Jesus, mercy”, “Sacred Heart of Jesus, I believe in Your love for me” etc. They are indulgenced; they help you to focus on God, and they bring peace and joy.

At a minimum: Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be, Act of Contrition.

A couple techniques: (1) Write the prayer over and over, until you can write it without looking at the source. (2) Use a song (you can find song versions of some prayers on YouTube).

Finally, you don’t have to memorize prayers to use them. It’s okay to read them from a book. Even priests read prayers from a book.
