Luther screwed up BIG TIME. He refused to change his errors, and he went off and did the very thing he said was wrong. Insurrection and rebellion
Thank you, Steve, for your opinion. I’m not sure it will solve anything, and your wording certainly won’t convince any Lutherans who might be lurking, but all of us are entitled to our opinions.

I might add that there are lots of things he was in error about, but that’s just my opinion, too

To convert to the LCMS that I was considering, it simply took 6 new member classes and poof you were Lutheran if you professed the info in the Small Catechism. They never mentioned the Large Catechism.

That could be considered abnormal maybe but truly here it was 8 Sundays of classes.

Jon,

IF I wanted to confirm in your old Lutheran Church what would be the process in the LCMS Church you last attended? I thought you were now Anglican, is that correct?

All the squishy language that avoids what things really are, hasn’t turned the table either.

Who is Luther? The doctrine is not mine.
Large and Small Catechism of Martin Luther. Well, that’s got to be Christ’s doctrine. 🤣
You claim to have been Lutheran, are you familiar with what they actually claim.
Therefore, we do not call ourselves Lutherans after him in the same way that we are called Christians on account of Christ. We are not called such because we believe in Luther. As highly as we treasure this vigorous witness, in our church we still do not accept so much as a word in matters of faith simply because Luther said it. Rather, we accept his words only in the instance that it can be shown written clearly in the Word of God. We do not accept him as any apostle or prophet but rather we know that he was subject to error and sin like other men. He is not the head of our church. He is not our pope. Therefore whoever accepts everything in blind faith simply because Luther said it is separated from the true Lutheran church as far as earth is from heaven and day is from night.
Um, you do realize not all Lutheran synods follow the BOC or Smalcald Articles or AC as you just suggested? WELS follow the Small and Large Catechisms, not the BOC. You were Lutheran, right?

Yep. I knew all of that, though it am at a loss at seeing what that gas to do with the conversation

Please, quit making general statements like these; ‘they’ are not united in their beliefs and ‘they’ do not all follow the BOC. So, when Luther says it’s not his doctrine, I find it somewhat misleading that you quote him saying that when you already knew, supposedly, that the WELS follows and confesses every word of his Large and Small Catechism.

So, every time you use this “I thought you were Lutheran”, it’s basically you just projecting.
