This is an amazing priest who has some very important things to say about our separated brethren. I thought I’d share it with you all here…

Shadow Priest - Protestants

~Liza
Liza,

Shadow priest distorts the indulgences issue. When the pope was collecting for St. Peter’s Cathedral many folk including one Tetzel demanded that he be paid a commission on the funds collected. As a result of this concession he specifically developed a jingle that enticed Christians to donate. The jingle promised that the souls of loved ones in purgatory would leave immediately as soon as the giver made his/her donation. This was the basis of Luther’s initial argument. The pope never agreed with Tetzel’s practice and all Luther wanted was to raise the level of awareness and get it corrected. What subsequently happened is of course what we are left with today. It may interest you to know that VII addressed almost all Luther’s issues which shows counter to what our priest is preaching that it was a serious issue.

To then say that he peaches 2000 years of tradition is a ridiculous statement. Many teachings didn’t develop until the 4th and 5th centuries so to ascribe those to Christ is just false. I agree we have many commonalities but bridging that gap will take more from Benedict than what he has exhibited. His re-ratification of the documents on non RC denominations last summer drove the wedge even further. There was no reason for him to do that. They had already been ratified.

Suffice it to say unity in the Christian churches will never happen in our lifetime. It’s a tragedy for sure but the RCC is not blameless here.

PEACE

Liza,
Do you have a text transcript? I’m on dialup (no choice) :o

Jon
No - I’m sorry Jon, but Father does not do these segments from a script, and transcribing them to transcript is not something we are doing at this time. 😦

Keeping you in my prayers.
