What Psalter Week Is It?!

Various sites or diocesan Ordos give different Psalter weeks for this strange time after Christmas and before the Epiphany. Universalis says it’s Week I, my diocesan ordo says week II (which makes more sense because last Sunday would have been Week II of Christmastide if not for the feast of the Holy Family). A neighbouring diocese lists this week as week I in their Ordo. There’s no consensus and the printed breviary isn’t clear in it’s directives.

I do not know if you are in the United States, nor if the interpretation may be different in other locales (nor if your ordinary can designate this otherwise?), but the USCCB establishes it as Psalter Week I, cf LITURGICAL CALENDAR FOR THE DIOCESES OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA 2018, the bottom of page 13 where it notes 2 January as “Pss I”

BLURRED DUE TO NEW INFORMATION: With all due respect, I believe your diocesan ordo to be mistaken.

However, if the local calendar may make this designation, then I would say follow your local ordo

The LOTH says it can be either I or II. The CCCB ordo says I.

I’m in the UK. Our Ordo has mistakes in it fairly often which is a shame so I wouldn’t be surprised if this was a mistake carried over from last year unnoticed.

Ah, then I have amended

my previous reply. I still do not know exactly who can make this designation, but I have more faith that the episcopal conference may do so than at the diocesan level (though the diocese is plenty competent for some other calendar alterations, so this may be merely an irrational feeling).

Your conference establishes the week as Psalter II
