My partner goes to a “spiritual center” and I want to know about their philosophy. I’m going to set up a meeting with him. I’m not in danger of converting. His videos are below. I have one hour to ask questions (first hour free. $75.00/hour after).

Summation of his beliefs:
  1. We live in a hologram or the world is an illusion.
  2. Quotes Buddha and Jesus.
  3. Reiki
  4. People have vibrations.

What questions would you ask?

Yes, the fact that he’s charging a (rather steep) fee doesn’t look very good.

You can Google the person’s name and the name of the center. If you do, and especially if you include the word “scam” or something similar, you may find out some interesting information.

I’ve talked a hundred hours with my spiritual director Catholic priest and I’ve never paid a dime, and he’s teaching me the TRUTH! Don’t pay for a Catholic spiritual director but please don’t pay for New Age wishy-washy jumbo-mumbo Buddianity . I wasted years on that stuff, it is the work of the devil.

You say you’re not in danger of converting but you can’t know that for sure, New Age phraseology is very deceptive. Don’t bite the apple.

Ask him what he’ll tell Christ about his selling falsehoods.

Many, if not most,
spiritual guides who aren’t religious charge for their services. It is not unlike charging as a doctor would, or a therapist. I wouldn’t hold this against this speaker or others like him. He is providing information to those who are seeking it. Of course priests don’t charge for spiritual guidance. They belong to an order which pays them, or to the diocese which does the same. Spiritual advisors don’t have that benefit. It doesn’t mean they don’t have knowledge through life experience or other means that isn’t worthwhile to share.

I guess my question would be why do you want to ask him questions if you are convinced your religion is correct, and what he is teaching is not? I wouldn’t bother with that.

The fact that he charges per hour after the first hour tells me all I need to know right now.
The man is a charlatan. Run for your life.
Pray for your partner, and if you can’t get your partner out of his clutches, please consider finding another partner.

I guarantee you that whatever you ask him, he will find a way to say little or nothing during the “free” hour. Wouldn’t be surprised if he gave you very basic answers and said “if you want to know more, show me da money.”

What more do you need to know than what you posted? 🤔

I would be more interested in learning why my partner believes such things, and asking myself how/why our beliefs are so varied.

Life’s too short, honestly. I agree with those who say they’d steer clear of religious teachers who charge as if they were psychotherapists when they aren’t in fact in any kind of regulated helping profession. In our society, reputable religious leaders are supported by general contributions from their faith community.

So are you gay? So that you are civilly married?
Spiritually churches have a different different foundation than Jesus as a foundation church.

The belief that we live in an illusion is popular with conspiracy theorists like David Icke. But look at the consequences of this. If it’s all an illusion, then all the people and places you know aren’t real. This would mean that Buddha and Jesus didn’t exist either because they were also illusions.

You should ask him how he could reconcile his illusion theory with all his other beliefs.
  1. How can people have vibrations if people don’t really exist?
  2. How can Reiki have any real effects if our bodies are actually illusions?
  3. How does he give lectures if the places where he lectures are not real, but just illusions?

I’m going to invite my girlfriend (I’m a guy). I’m thinking that if she goes with me, she’ll realize that it’s a sham.
  1. Did the universe come about as an act of creation?
  2. Do we have individual souls or are we all part of one “thing?”
  3. Do you come to your conclusions empirically, reason from premises (what are they?), or was it revealed to you (who?).
  4. Why do you cite Buddha and Jesus? Did they have some special connection to truth or were they just wise? Wouldn’t modern people have more insight?
  5. How did you conclude that Reiki is effective? Couldn’t we just heal ourselves if everybody learns it or do we have to pay people (he doesn’t do it himself, but his secretary recommended a Reiki practitioner).
Depending how it goes, I’ll ask, “Your center is a 501c3 charity. How much do you pay yourself in salary?”

I am not making any of this up. I have the email saying that the first consultation is free and that the followups are $75.00

I’m firmly Catholic. I’m trying to confirm what I think are contradictions and illogical thinking, but in a fair, non-hostile way.

I still don’t understand the need to meet with him. This is really between you and your girlfriend to discuss.

This is why your first conversation should be with your Priest. You are already on shaky ground with your understanding, and need that solid before talking to someone who makes a business out of selling his false prophecy.

Bring your girlfriend to meet your priest. The best example you can give her is to live as a practising Catholic and observe all its norms and laws, Mass on Sunday, prayer life, practice charity, chastity when single, keep the commandments.

I figure I’d get $75.00 worth of spiritual training for free. Would you pass that up? 😀

Seriously, I just want to help, but not seem closed-minded and hostile.
