Suppose you were in a position to chat with a few priests in their late seventies and older. What questions would you ask them ?

In their opinion, is the church better before Vatican II or after?

How do they feel about the attitude of incoming seminarians, and how does it compare to there seminary experience.

What most enabled you to remain functional as a priest for so long?

“If you had to do all over again, …what would you change, if anything, and why.”

First, ask: Father: What is the secret of your youthful looks? (to lighten the mood) 🙂

Then ask about what are his views about “New Evangelization”. (per Pope John Paul II)

Thanks all. So far…

How many times have you celebrated Mass?

What is the secret of your youthful looks?

What are your views about “New Evangelization” ?

Keep them coming 🙂

If you had a chance to be on a committee in Rome to help decide the focus of the year, what would you suggest?

What would you advise parishioners to do during the Consecration of the Mass?

I would ask :
  • Now that H.H. BXVI has freed the Old Mass from the constraints of indult, do you feel having two forms of the Latin Rite will continue to be the norm ?
  • Do you have any concerns that two forms will foster further division ?
  • What were your thoughts on praying the Rosary during the old Latin Mass ?
  • What were your thoughts at the time the Novus Ordo Missae was introduced ?
  • Was the new Mass well received in your parish ?
  • Why do you think we are facing a serious shortage of priests today ?
  • What do you see as positive fruits or the VII reforms ?
  • Do you see any negative fruits of the reforms ?
  • St Pius X and St Pius V are the only two Popes canonized since St Celestine V in 1294. What Pope, if any, would you like to see canonized , and why ?
  • Do you have any thoughts on the indult allowing CITH ?
  • Do you feel that allowing both CITH and COTT in the same parish is a concern in regard to unity ?
-Today, we hear of Liturgical abuses in the new Mass, but we seldom hear of abuses in the old Mass. What little we do hear, is usually recollection of priests mumbling the Latin prayers, or hastily reciting them or even omitting some of them. Also, many today, suggest that those who prayed the Rosary during Mass did so because they didn’t understand Latin or even what was happening on the Altar during the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. Can you attest to, or dismiss these claims ?
  • It is also said that many in the pews did not participate in the old Mass because of the Latin, despite the availability of missals. In your parishes, what percentage of the laity used their missals and prayed the Mass ? What about the average parish ?
  • What one Saint or Doctor of the Church’s writings would you recommend to today’s laity ?
  • What one would you recommend to a young priest if asked ?

Do you believe that there is salvation outside of the Catholic Church?

Suppose you were in a position to chat with a few priests in their late seventies and older. What questions would you ask them ?
What was your favorite pet in life?
What is your favorite incense?
What is the greatest evil facing Christianity today?
Does limbo exist?
Do you have any regrets about becoming a priest?
What’s the most wild angelic/demonic experience you’ve had in life?
Ever partake in an exorcism?
What do you think of Rock and Roll music?
Is Contemporary Christian Music of God?
How did the dinosaurs die?
Do you believe in evolution?
Which book (besides the Bible) would you most strongly recommend?
Where would you want to be buried?
What do you think of Medjugorje?

What would you ask older priests? Believe me, they are muich friendlier than the younger one’s.

Ask them if they have any brothers or sisters? Where is their hometown?

What do you like best about the priesthood and least about the priesthood? Ask for experinces he had at all of the parishes as pastor.

And if you need to go to Confession, these elderly priests are so kind and compassionate.

This such be a good opener. Good luck!!!

God bless you and I am sure the priests will enjoy your company.

Asking Almighty God for blessings on you as you approach the priest, I am with kind personal regards

Thanks. I’m thinking of visiting some priests this summer. Assisted living centers, nursing homes, wherever I can find them.

God bless, and please post more often 🙂

For those too young to remember, what was being a priest like before the 'spirit of Vatican 2"?
Do you feel youve made a lasting impact?

Well, first of all I said the ‘spirit’ of Vatican 2, not Vatican 2 itself. Secondly, I’m not part of “you people”. Last time I checked we all belong to one Holy Catholic Church. Thirdly, I have no clue how you made the jump to “criticism towards priests”. The OP was what to ask an old priest. Finally, you’re not showing much charity in this post by your accusations, leaps in logic, ect.
Dont derail the thread please.

What best way, would you recommend in this troubled era, do you suggest to teach and help my children to become saints?
