What really matters

This being my first visit to this forum, I am wondering if my time couldn’t be better spent watching Saturday Night Live, reruns of Winfrey or some other sophisticated form of time mismanagement. However, since I am quite sure I haven’t sinned today, and I usually do, I’ll just choose to do it here. After all I could spend this time honoring God by reading my Bible and fellowshipping with Him right? But since my choice is to participate in this highly refined amusement, at least this one time, I’ll apologize up front if my ignorance or understanding of scriptural interpretation offends any one or is out of line. If I choose not to eat pork and you do, does it matter? Since I know that I am a regenerate and heaven bound does it matter if I believe that absent from the body-present with the Lord will require a spell in purgatory? I think not. I’ll accept whatever my God wills and praise my Jesus for his sacrifice. What about baptism, Infant, late youth, mature, death bed, sprinkled or immersed. It didn’t seem important for the repentant criminal next to our Jesus on the cross according to St. Luke’s gospel did it? Shall we stop here and waste our God’s time to argue our opinion? I think not. Everyone reading this should know what our Lord Jesus told Peter when Peter thought it important to mind John’s business. If you don’t, well shame on you. Read it in St. John 21:20. That what we should all be doing instead of wasting our time in this woe is me bicker box. If some deceived soul wants to become a SDA so be it. He‘s not likely to be out flying airplanes into buildings tomorrow. If you think you can change his ways by your opinion in this forum, you are likely wrong. Pray that God would remove the scales from his eyes and move on to what is really important. And that’s not Protestants throwing rocks at Catholics or the inverse. We do have very common ground. So what about those that follow the false prophets that want to fly airplanes into buildings or do anything else to destroy us? Let’s pray that God would remove the scales from our own eyes and give us wisdom to focus on and deal with these real problems. As believers and followers we have an obligation.

If you’re going to use the criminal on the cross as the entire approach to your theology, what you’re saying is that one man’s deathbed conversion sums it all up, despite the fact he was in a position where he had to make a choice pronto. Secondly he was literally crucified with Christ Himself, so he was a somewhat special case.

Christ handed authority over to Peter and the Apostles. Peter became the Rock on which the Church was built. “What you retain on earth will retained in heaven; what you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” In John, Christ said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they forgiven. If you retain the sins of any, they are retained.”

He called for Unity. At the time by the way, the New Testament didn’t exist, and authority came through the apostles. The Bible as such didn’t exist for quite a while, and it existed for the Church, not the other way around. The earliest Church fathers hardly quoted a word of NT Scripture for the simple reason they didn’t have much accees to it. They based their authority on that of the apostles, some of whom they’d met. The Apostles Creed, in use by the church around 100 AD, does not contain a single line of quoted Scripture.

Christ specifically stated that he who did not drink his blood or eat his flesh had no part in Him. Since this was God speaking in the Flesh, the words were more than simply symbolic. They carried spiritual weight.

And because we are divided on these critical issues, we are not going to be united in our approach to another theologically sophisticated Abrahamic faith, ie. Islam.

That’s why the disunity of the Church needs to be addressed. But a lot of people think it doesn’t matter, despite Christ’s clear statement that a divided house will not stand.

Fundamentalist against Muslim blathering is a much more sophisticated waste of time.
