What religion do I sound like to you?

  1. I believe God is supreme without a body.
  2. I believe Jesus was a man full of wisdom with a message to spread that led him to fall victim to a corrupt system.
  3. I don’t know if I believe Mary was a virgin when she gave birth to Jesus.
  4. I believe in Genesis but I think a day could be thousands of years.
  5. I don’t think faith alone will secure you salvation.
  6. I support evolution.
–Social Issues–
  1. Pro-Life AND pro-contraceptives.
  2. I’m support gay marriage but not because I’m gay.
I have felt a calling to Judaism for the last year in a half and even spoke with a Rabbi about my urge to become a Rabbi and he said follow my heart.

I know what my heart says,I’ve prayed and I think I know what God says,but my mind keeps leading me in different directions.

What do you think I should do?
 
the( I assume hypothetical) person who expresses these opinions sounds to me like a badly catechized Catholic who has never been exposed to any reliable book about the Faith. If this person is in fact from Jewish heritage I would add that the person also appears to be imperpectly educated on that Faith.

Which you MAY have already done…

What you are describing are beliefs. Yes yes churches and other places of worship have beliefs OBVIOUSLY…but I think you need to go experience how people know and experience God.
Sure…you could be a Reform Jew. On the other hand, you could also be a liberal Protestant. Good luck.🙂

Yes,I am of Jewish heritage but not raised in a devout Jewish home which is why I could seem to be “imperfectly” educated on all sides.

I thought you weren’t supposed to believe in Jesus at all? :confused:

Anyhow - yes, you sound confused, like someone who was taken to Church or to Synagogue once in a while, but mostly got their beliefs from conversations with other kids at school who also weren’t being very well educated in their religion, either. (Hypothetically, of course. I’m not speaking directly to a real person; I just mean “you” to mean “someone”.)

If you only “think” you know what God says, but your mind leads you in a different
direction, you need to study truth. God is truth. Your mind is not. Study the
Catholic Church, (the fulfillment of the Old Testament, ie, Jewish faith.) all the way
to the early church fathers and forward until today.

I never said that I believe Jesus was the son of God.

I said I believe Jesus was a man with a message…AKA: Prophet just like Moses and Muhammad.

I haven’t been in school in years and the people who I went to school with were Atheist.

I’ve only been to church a couple times but I’ve been to Synagogue on holidays for years but only to pray on Yom Kippur.

So yes being raised in different religions I am a bit confused about where I stand but not about what the religions teaches.

I don’t think Jews believe that Mohammed was a Prophet, either. 😉

Like I said, I’m sure you’re not supposed to believe that he was a prophet of any kind. Most devout Jews react in horror to the idea that he was even a Rabbi - they say, no, no, that’s not possible; his teachings went against the Law. They certainly would not agree to the idea that he was a Prophet.

Prophet as in a wise man who taught people about God and spread a message for the later Christians.

Moses is the greatest prophet of Judaism-Mohammed is to Muslims and Jesus is to Christians.

Personally,Mohammed and Jesus teaching aren’t significant as the Torah however they are important for alot of people so I can’t say they are absolutely false.So being since Christians look at Jesus as a prophet…I’m not going to dispute that.

Jesus was NOT the Messiah in my opinion.<-------I think that’s what you’re getting confused about when I say prophet.

It sounds as if you’ve decided what it is that you WANT to be true about God and now you are in search of a religion that fits the beliefs you already have.

Doesn’t that bother you at least a little bit? :confused:
 
I suggest you go to your nearest Catholic Church and ask if you can enroll into the RCIA program to become a Catholic.🙂

Not sure though! Because we do believe that Prophet Jesus is the Messiah, and we do not believe in gay marriage…! And yes, Mary was a virgin :rolleyes:
