They arenāt? Most of my Jewish friends believe that Jesus was real, and a Rabbi/style wise man. Some of them are willing to call Him a prophet. I donāt know any Jews who donāt believe in Him āat allā¦ā except those who happen to be cultural Jews and religious atheistsā¦but then I donāt know all THAT many Jews. Those I do know tend to be reformed or āculturalā Jewsā¦you know, the sort that have Chanukah bushes.I thought you werenāt supposed to believe in Jesus at all?
Anyhow - yes, you sound confused, like someone who was taken to Church or to Synagogue once in a while, but mostly got their beliefs from conversations with other kids at school who also werenāt being very well educated in their religion, either. (Hypothetically, of course. Iām not speaking directly to a real person; I just mean āyouā to mean āsomeoneā.)
Exactly!..Thatās what I was saying. They arenāt? Most of my Jewish friends believe that Jesus was real, and a Rabbi/style wise man. Some of them are willing to call Him a prophet. I have no idea what the official stand is, especially for Orthodox Jews. In fact, I have no idea what the official stand is on Jesus at all in Judaism; Iām only reporting what my few Jewish friends thinkā¦and boy, do they give me an earful!
Yeah Iām confused on deciphering between what I believe and what I SHOULD believeā¦Thatās why I posted this question here to get feed back from Christians.Re: What religion do I sound like to you?
Confusionism.
If Iād already decided 100% Iād be at Synagogueā¦But Iām not because Iām not sure thatās why Iām asking Christians. It sounds as if youāve decided what it is that you WANT to be true about God and now you are in search of a religion that fits the beliefs you already have.
Doesnāt that bother you at least a little bit?![]()
Of your six points, only two and three would necessarily disqualify you from being a Christian.
- I believe God is supreme without a body.
- I believe Jesus was a man full of wisdom with a message to spread that led him to fall victim to a corrupt system.
- I donāt know if I believe Mary was a virgin when she gave birth to Jesus.
- I believe in Genesis but I think a day could be thousands of years.
- I donāt think faith alone will secure you salvation.
- I support evolution.
āSocial Issuesā
I have felt a calling to Judaism for the last year in a half and even spoke with a Rabbi about my urge to become a Rabbi and he said follow my heart.
- Pro-Life AND pro-contraceptives.
- Iām support gay marriage but not because Iām gay.
I know what my heart says,Iāve prayed and I think I know what God says, but my mind keeps leading me in different directions.
What do you think I should do?
What religion do you sound like? Iām leaning towards one of those funny guys who ware chicken feathers, kill goats and dance around in a circle

my advice is to go back to the beginning where you first lost whatever it is you are looking for. Learn all you can about the faith into which you were born or raised, your first faith home. That should inevitably require immersion into the Hebrew Scripture, the logical starting point as well for someone who may one day want to explore Christianity. It will as well not only reacquaint you with your own traditions, but hopefully provide the historical and scriptural basis for those traditions, and love and appreciation for the people who own them.If Iād already decided 100% Iād be at Synagogueā¦But Iām not because Iām not sure thatās why Iām asking Christians.
It absolutely bothers meā¦Again, thatās why I asking this question.
Iām trying to figure things out.
The advice above is probably the most sound advice Iāve read in this thread. I agreeā¦go back to your own birth faith and begin to study in earnest and discover the beauty and spirituality of your own faithā¦THEN if after doing an intensive study and immersion into your own faith you still feel āsomethingās missingāā¦widen your searchā¦youāll have a better base to begin a new Journey.my advice is to go back to the beginning where you first lost whatever it is you are looking for. In this journey of self-knowledge if there is to be a further movement toward the Jew we know and love as Jesus, for a Jew it seems that embracing the fullness of what that means is the place to start.
I canāt believe no one has corrected this yet! Christians DO NOT believe that Jesus was a Prophet!!! We believe He is God the Son, the 2nd Person of the Trinity, as well as the Messiah. And since when is Messiah synonymous with Prophet? Jonah, Elijah, Isaiah, etc, were all Prophets, not Messiahs.Prophet as in a wise man who taught people about God and spread a message for the later Christians.
**.Moses is the greatest prophet of Judaism-Mohammed is to Muslims and Jesus is to Christians
Personally,Mohammed and Jesus teaching arenāt significant as the Torah however they are important for alot of people so I canāt say they are absolutely false. So being since Christians look at Jesus as a prophetā¦Iām not going to dispute that.
Jesus was NOT the Messiah in my opinion.<-------I think thatās what youāre getting confused about when I say prophet.
You donāt understand what Iām saying
This is the perfect answer!Of your six points, only two and three would necessarily disqualify you from being a Christian.
Of the other 2 points, I also am pro-life (against abortion) and pro-contraception. Apparently 80% of Catholics in the USA use contraceptives I read in a book āWhy Be Catholic?ā. The Church is flogging a dead horse on this one.
- We also think God is supreme without a body, except in the special case of Christās coming (except for Christ, no problem there).
- We think Christ was God the Son, and therefore would be good by sheer definition. Since the worldās kingdoms are ultimately under the devilās authority (youāll notice the ābestā governments generally have a bias towards either Christianity or Judaism, which means the devil finds it harder to infiltrate them), then He would have been destroyed anyway, as the devil is Godās ultimate enemy. That is difference no.1.
- We accept Mary was a virgin. If God can make a universe out of nothing, itās not going to be difficult for him to tweak an ova in a supernatural way. The ābrothersā of Jesus were most likely cousins. That is difference no. 2.
- Christians have all sorts of beliefs about origins. Some, like you, accept Genesis with thousands of years for a day. Some believe in a literal 6 day creation. Others believe in theistic evolution. The Catholic Church doesnāt tell its members what to believe in this area.
- Christ himself said there would be those who thought āfaithā would be all they needed, and He would say to them, āGet away from me, you accursedā. I suppose there would be various reasons for this, but in context, it mainly seems to be a case of how they treated the āleast of these my brothersā or if you like, other people. So strictly speaking, āfaithā is only part of the story.
- Iām a bit of a creationist myself. But Catholics are free to choose their own beliefs on origins (this really relates to point 3).
There would be disagreement about gay marriage.
In the end then, the two main differences of opinion centre on Christ and His Mother. Since the two come together, Iād suggest you read the essay, āThe Assumption and the Modern Worldā by Bishop Fulton Sheen, link below.

To understand it in context, youād then need to do a bit of research on Maryās appearance at Lourdes, her self description as the "Immaculate Conception to St. Bernadette Soubirous, and then you might find St. Bernadetteās incorrupt state a bit startling.

From Wikipedia, āContemporary Catholic interpreters had great difficulties, explaining Bernadetteās claim on the Immaculate Conception, of which she knew nothing. Ecclasiastical authorities tried unsuccessfully to ridicule her statement to that effect as not credible.ā
You can see pictures of her here. There are others also. Bear in mind sheās been dead for more than 140 years.
