Does anyone have a good list of what religions or denominations take the Bible literally?
Depends on what you mean by “literally”? Some people say they are “Biblical literalists” but what they really mean is that they take the Bible seriously as an authority for life and faith. They don’t choose some parts of the Bible to take seriously while they overlook others as being outdated or “metaphorical” (as some of the more “liberal” or “progressive” Christian groups tend to do).Does anyone have a good list of what religions or denominations take the Bible literally?
110 In order to discover the sacred authors’ intention, the reader must take into account the conditions of their time and culture, the literary genres in use at that time, and the modes of feeling, speaking and narrating then current. “For the fact is that truth is differently presented and expressed in the various types of historical writing, in prophetical and poetical texts, and in other forms of literary expression.”The Catholic Church takes the Bible literally as the inspired Word of God.
