I am a student at a public state university who is taking a religion class. Today in class my professor said that there were “women bishops, women priests, and women deacons” in the early church until around the fifth century. The deacons I had heard about for baptism and other things but not the latter. They also mentioned “Pope Joan”(not in class). How does one answer this when talking with others? I understand individual belief rests on faith in the church’s continuity and indefectibility.
