What separates Eastern Catholicism from Eastern Orthodoxy?

And this is coming from someone who actually lives the Eastern Catholic faith.

Well, to be fair, I doubt the Orthodox appreciate it any more when we say things like Eastern Orthodox and Eastern Catholics are the same, because the Pope said so!

Brother Peter, anecdotal evidence: my Orthodox friend refers to me as a uniate:p. I know he said that, with love, and fun.

I actually find myself agreeing with what you write most of the time, except when, while explaining your experiences, you make it seem like the entire Latin Catholic Church can be pidgeonholed into your own particular experience.

Can either of you please provide a quote from any Pope indicating that “Eastern Orthodox and Eastern Catholics are the same”? And if you can, please make sure to cite the dogmatic document in which it was contained.

Really? From what I know (which seems to be a lot less that what you know), the only times the bishops of Rome have made such assumptions are on pretty serious matters, not merely on “whatever” he says.

Don’t get me wrong: I realize that’s a colloquial, inexact way of putting it. It isn’t literally whatever the Pope says.

We might want to just stick with the Latin, Roma locuta est, causa finita est.
