Hello,

I currently own a Douay-Rheims Compact Bible, an RSV Catholic Compact Bible, a Douay-Rheims Study Bible, an NLT Bible (not a Catholic edition), a Catholic Children’s Bible, and the King James Bible Illustrated Gospels. I also own The Catechism Of The Catholic Church, a Tridentine (Pre-Second Vatican Council) Sunday Missal, a normal Catholic Mass Book, a series of books about how to live life as a Catholic and study scripture, two Catholic Prayer Books, a Latin Dictionary for Translation from my Tridentine Missal, a Crucifix, Rosary, Statue Of The Virgin Mary, and Devotional Cards.

Is there anything else I need as a Catholic?

Regards.

You don’t “need” any of it to be Catholic; just a spirit of prayer and seeking God’s will.

Those others are nice to have; they’re helpful. You can still learn and grow in the faith without any particular combination, though.

Imitation of Christ by Thomas Kempis is a must have imo

Way too lofty for this cradle Catholic… but then again, I enjoy the writings of St John of the Cross, which are a bit lofty in their own right. 😄

You need to go to Sunday mass.
You need to go to confession.
You need to spend time in prayer daily.

As for religious possessions, you don’t need anything more than that which helps you grow closer to Christ.

Being a Catholic is about being in a relationship with the Holy Trinity, about growing in faith in this life so as to spend all eternity with God in the life to come. Owning a copy of every Bible translation there is won’t help you one whit if you don’t open one and read a passage and meditate on God’s message to you. Owning a thousand prayer books in a dozen languages won’t help you if you don’t allow a prayer to come from the depths of your soul and cry out to God.

Don’t worry about religious objects so much. Use what you have now – especially a Bible – to talk with God and to listen for His voice.

Catholicism isn’t about “owning” things. It sounds like you have more than enough to keep you busy.

If you find you don’t need all of that, consider giving or donating it to someone else who can use it.

And if you find something else speaks to you in a reasonable way, and it’s not too expensive, then feel free to get it.

Be careful about idolatry. Think about good works to help the sick, the imprisoned, the poor, the homeless. Consider Aid to the Church in Need as a needy charity.

Being Catholic is being to close to our Lord our God and also to his followers as well like the Saints and Mother Mary

What you’ve got is fine. Try not to focus too much on the things themselves, but what they help us to do.

Hello,

I am a ‘cradle Catholic’ as well. I am just trying to immerse myself in the faith more. Thank you very much for your suggestions (I am going to get a framed portrait of His Holiness, Pope Francis, however!).

Regards.

That’s all fine, but it seems like you’re getting really into “Catholic” as an identity/letting everyone know you’re Team Catholic and maybe not focusing enough on the faith itself? Just a thought.

We don’t need to physically own anything to be a Catholic. Religious who have taken a vow of poverty do not own things. We should read a Catholic Bible, Catechism, prayers.

Are all available on Amazon?
I don’t know.

If I’m not making Jeff Bezos richer I’m at a complete loss on where else to buy it.

I forgot to include the Holy Hand Grenade, but you should be able to find one of those at your local Staples.
