What should a Catholic think of Tim Keller

Hello All:

My (separated) Anglican sister constantly sends me recordings of the evangelican Tim Keller. I rarely read or listen to the materials she gives me, primarily b/c they are in error (she is much more charitable than I since she does, on occasion, read what I provide her). Without doing all the research myself and playing “spot the heresy,” are there any generalizations those in the forum might make regarding Keller?

so you want this to be an open crucifixion, or will you at least attempt to refute his errors specifically?

It isn’t really necessary to “refute his errors”… he is a generic minister trying to build up a following like so many others. Seems he is “commercializing”… redeemer.com/about_us/offices/employment_opportunities.html

He takes a position…which may or may not be in opposition to another protestant minister. He is actually doing his own refuting… He is a “Presbyterian”…therefore he is automatically in contention and refuting all others that are not in communion with him.

I can’t help but wonder why an Anglican would be listening to Keller…

I guess I was avoiding having to listen to any of his recordings. So, I guess you’re saying that I now have to listen to his stuff in order to refute it. Might just scratch that off and not even start…

BTW, my Anglican sister claims to be an Evangelical Anglican. Don’t even know if that’s break-away Anglican or not… Hard to tell now days.
 
I"ve listened to many of his tapes and have heard him in person. I am Anglican - he is prespetyrian. He is a very intelligent and articulate pastor. I wouldn’t jump to conclusions regarding errors without listening to what he has to say. That being said, I don’t agree with everything he preaches - but I do with a great deal of what he does.

Of course, by definition, he is not Catholic - but he is a brother in the body of Christ making a difference (positive) in the world and bringing many to an understanding of who Christ was and is.

Lets put it this way - we must walk before we run. Among Catholics are many athiests (and other non-Christianas) who first came to faith through Protestant teaching 🙂

Ignore him. He isn’t worth any Christian’s time. Pray for the people, especially the children that he speaks to when he goes off on one of his rants.

Note: he is Baptist who follows reform theology. Now that may seem like an oxymoron, but it is nonetheless true.
