My mother-in-law passed away today. The adult children who provided for her care have decided on a memorial service and not a Mass. I don’t think a priest was even called to administer the Anointing of the Sick. My mother-in-law was not a practicing Catholic and neither are her children with the exception of the daughter with whom she was living during her illness and death. I’m worried because my mother-in-law did not receive the Anointing of the Sick and no Catholic Funeral Mass is being planned for her (even though the daughter, who is making the arrangements, is a practicing Catholic). I’ve tried searching this forum and the Catechism, but have found nothing which would address my concerns. Please, what does the Catholic Church teach about this? Thank you.
