so I went to world youth day, my parents happened ot be there as well. at the final mass, my mom, fearing I might miss outon receiving communin because of the crowds, got a eucharist and kept it for me. I was with a parish group so not in the same section.

I didn’t find out about it until after and she didn’t have it on her at that time. by thetime we got home. I completely forgot about it. I just remembered now tonight at mass.

my mom isn’t cahotlic, so there is a lot of stuff she doesn’t really get. Sometimes she just doesn’t know any better,it wasn’t ill-intentioned.

I know, it’s a serious situation and shouldn’t have happened, but what should I do about it now? Am I supposed to consume it? or should I bring it to church and give it to the priest? or something else? I don’t think I am suppose dto just let it sit around the house somewhere.

I would call a priest, ANY Roman Catholic priest, and ask him. I mean like right now! Doesn’t matter what time it is. They do get sick calls in the middle of the night. He’ll tell you what to do. Don’t wait on this.

You shouldn’t wait until tomorrow. Most diocese have an emergency line you can call to get ahold of a priest at any time. Most likely the priest will just ask you to consume the Communion. If you can’t find a priest, you should not leave Jesus alone. Put him in safe place, kneel before him, and keep watch (pray) until you can contact the priest. You might have to stay up all night, but it’s the right thing to do. God will be very pleased if you make this sacrifice. He will surely bless you in some way for this.

Do not wait. Set Jesus in a place of honor ie a home altar with a lit candle. Pray while trying to contact a Priest. Do not leave Him alone. One must prepare to receive the Lord. When I bring Jesus to the sick the sacrament is never given without the proper prayers and listening to His word. Your priest will guide you.

Where is the host now?
If it hasn’t been consumed then I think you should consume it as soon as possible.

This sounds like a highly unusual situation that most of us have never been in ourselves, so it’s hard to say what to do. If it were me, I’d probably consume the host as soon as possible. I’d probably read parts of the Mass, check the appropriate Bible readings for the day, etc., then say, “The Body of Christ. Amen.”, and consume the host, making the sign of the cross. On the other hand, I do live more or less across the street from the presbytery, so maybe I’d go and ask the priest, who would probably either say to do the same thing or put the host in the tabernacle. Certainly an interesting situation to find yourself in. I’ve heard of it happening before, but only for Protestants who do not have the same understanding of the Lord’s Supper.

On a lighter note, an acquaintance of mine, who is an Anglican, had been to a Methodist Communion service, and in the vestry after the service he saw that there was a decent sized piece of a loaf of bread left over. So he asked the minister, ‘What will you do with that?’, and the minister said, ‘Have it with jam.’ For them it is, after all, just a loaf of bread.

Angel, you can consume it— if it isn’t very old. You don’t mention which world youth day you went to. So if It is older than a few months do not consume it.

If you do not consume it, simply dissolve it in water and then pour the water into the ground where it will be absorbed by the ground (on dirt not concrete) such as your flowerbeds at your house or in a park under a tree, etc.

There is no need to panic. No need to call a priest emergency hotline.

Also if your mother disposed of it or cannot find it, you’ve done nothing wrong and do not need to do anything further.

Angel, I repeat: you’ve done nothing wrong.

thanks, it was justs the most recent world youth day, so just a couple weeks ago.
there wasn’t anything I could have done yesterday anyways, I don’t have the host yet, my mom was really sick and aleady in bed, so I couldn’t ask her for it. and I couldn’t have consumed it yesterday anyways, even if I did have it because I had already gone to mass

Yes, you could have.
Please get this host and consume it or properly dispose of it, NOW.

The communion rite begins with the Our Father. Ask God’s forgiveness, and forgive your mother for her ignorance.
Receive the Lord as an opportunity to trust in God’s presence in your life.

Talk to a priest when you have a chance.

Yes, you could have.
Having already been to mass, Angel is referring to canon 917.
Please get this host and consume it or properly dispose of it, NOW.
We don’t even know if her mother still has the host. And, given her mother’s history and Angel’s posting history, we cannot assume she will give it to Angel.

Angel suffers from periods of anxiety and scruples. She is also visually impaired and living in a tenuous situation with her parents.

Angel will do what she can.

so I’m not allowed to ask for help when I have no other recourse? not getting it…

yeah, that is what I was referring to.

didn’t see most of these posts until ht8is morning, finally managed to get hold of a priest. a bit more difficult since it’s a stat holiday.

even he wasn’t totally sure.at firset, he was concerned that it may been used in some sacrilegious way, I assured him that it wasn’t, so he told me consume it when I got home from work. asked my mom for it, so she will find it. supposedly, she knows where it is, theni will consume it.

sorry if it’s not fast enough for some of you, but I am doing what i can.i certainly never asked for this situation

ok, I managedto get it and consume as much as I could.

one complication, it was kept in a plastic wrapper and some of it got stuck, and is impossible to get some of the particles off, what should I do with the plastic wrapper now?

if you all think this sounds mortifying, imagine how I am feeling

Soak the wrapper in water in a bowl. Then pour the water in the ground. Dispose of the wrapper by burying or burning it. Or bring it to your priest this weekend if you cannot do that.

yeah, I will just take it to the parish tomorrow. I ended up calling the priest back that I talked to earlier, he suggested I don’t attempt to dispose of it myself. he will call the parish secretary and tell her the situation so I can drop it off before work. in the meantime, I am supposed to wrap it up in some cloth.
