This other woman called her baby after me. However…

-We were not and had never been friends.

-She had no desire to actually spend a lot of her time with me or devote herself to establishing my friendship and treating me like I meant a lot to her.

-She did not agree with several things that -I- strongly stood for.

-She did not ask me if I would be ok with that or if it would bother me.

-She did not tell me she was calling her baby after me and by the time I found out it was too late.

-She has plenty of family and friends of her own. I don’t. She might have some compassion or something but she doesn’t have any burning desire to devote herself to MY happiness and welfare. It’s not as if I’m jealous or something. But I have my own less than happy domestic situation and why she had to do this to me is beyond me. To be quite honest, I am very severely offended.

To make matters worse, she has also tried to make me feel guilty about the fact that I’m not interested in her baby. That’s the only reason she did it. She thought I was supposed to care about babies. And well, I am. So what should I do? Force myself to care about the baby and hence allow her to use me? It would seem like the Christian thing to do. And I can’t forget her either. But I don’t know. What an annoying situation. And it can’t go away because I cannot just vanish the baby.

Hi.

Perhaps you’re being a bit too sensitive about the matter.

The first thing to note is that most names are relatively common. If the woman named her child “Annie,” it does not necessarily mean she did it in your honor. And, if the woman did so, the naming infers no real obligations I’m aware of.

I’m unsure about your relationship with the woman. If you are not friends, then why are the two of you in contact? It is a virtuous thing as a Christian to speak to strangers, if nothing more than to pass on the Word of God. However, we aren’t obligated to put ourselves in harm’s way constantly in conversing with someone with hostile attitudes or questionable morals.

If the two of you are not friends, then it seems reasonable that you cease contact with the person, which solves the issue.

I hope that helps.

Okay, how did you find out she named her baby after you? Did she tell you that? Did you ask her why, if she did? There’s not enough information here. So far, it just seems like you are projecting your own feelings onto her.

Once again, how do you know her intentions? Did she tell you she wanted to “one up” you by doing this? Why would anyone want to name their child just to spite someone else? I sure wouldn’t. Again, I’m confused.

If you aren’t friends why should she care how you feel about her child? Do you see this person regularly? Is she a coworker? Not a relative, I hope. Not that we want to be a part of gossip or pry, but if you really want some advice, we need to understand what your relationship with this person is. 🤷

Seems like you’re really overreacting. The woman may have just liked the way your name sounds, and that’s why she named her baby that. I would forget about her and her baby, say hi to them if you happen to run into them and go on with your life.

I think the only viable option is to get your name changed and hope the lady doesn’t have any more kids.

:rotfl:

Really, I think you are being too sensitive. If you are not friends with her, don’t socialize with her. Don’t answer her calls if she offends you so badly:shrug:
