Hello,

my name is Vincent and I am new on these forums. I was baptized by a Catholic priest, but my parents were atheists and my whole education was also atheist. I never got any religious learning, but I believe in God and I read the Scriptures and other books dealing with religions.

My question is, for someone like me who knows almost nothing about Catholicism, Mass, what to say to a priest, etc…, what is the first step that I should take to learn about Catholicism ? Who can I talk to ? Who can help me ?

Thank you very much for your help.

Hi Vincent,

Great name, by the way! You have already explained your situation quite well to a priest. Just go to a Catholic Church and ask to speak to a priest and tell him what you just told me. If you have any problems with this, let me know by clicking on my name here and writing me privately.

I would suggest that you read “Exploring the Catholic Church” by Marcellino D’Ambrosio and “Do You Believe?” by Steve Ray.

(I suspect that 68 is the year of your birth. It’s the year of my ordination. We Vincents have to stick together!)

Fr. Vincent Serpa, O.P.
