What should I get her?

Another thing to think about is that guys always gives roses. In my opinion, if a guy showed up with a beautiful arrangement of flowers that weren’t roses, I would think he was creative not just taking the easy way out.

I finally signed up here just to say this, so pay attention:

You shouldn’t get her and her family anything unless it’s food that is unique to where you live, or some plate that your mom does particularly well. But since you already asked her what her favorite flower is (and she said roses), then you should give her one, but just one, and not red!

I think giving her a book with a little personal message written and signed by you is a bad idea: what if things don’t turn out well? Don’t do anything too romantic on that first meeting, you might make things awkward for her. Don’t be too nervous, and good luck 🙂

A beautiful bouquet would be a great idea. So many florists have cut rate prices on roses these days. You want her to know you didn’t shop price.

Forget what I said before about the roses lol
I didn’t see that you had said her favorite flowers were roses
OOPS!

I know that she likes Father Corapi, and she said that she would be happy with his DVD’s, but I would like to give her a book with a personal message; unfortunately, I don’t think Father Corapi writes books. So if you have any suggestions on what’s a good book to give her, I’m all ears! Personally, I don’t think this would be over the top. I’m not going to give this to her right when I meet her, maybe before I leave if things go well. Honestly, after having talked to her for 2 months by the tim she and I meet, I would feel bad if I didn’t give her some kind of gift, and I really like the book idea. So if you have any suggestions, please don’t hesitate to let me know! As for roses, I’m leaning towards white roses.

The trilogy by Mark Shea, "Mary, Mother of the Son, here at CAF might be a good idea. I haven’t quite finished it yet but it would be something she would probably treasure.

Eh, once again I could but say, “Whatevergirl is right,” but what fun would be in that? Flowers are a good idea, or at least one that strikes a cord with me.

Sometimes I just pass by flower stalls and I see all the beautiful flowers I could choose if I had someone to choose them for (and no, family is not the same, although I do that). I just take a breath and march on, though. 😉

Don’t get any red roses or anything like that. Get something classy but with enough oomph to make a difference. Or something that expresses you. The best idea would to be buy her whatever flowers you would like to buy her. Just think what flowers you would like to give her - instead of what flowers you should give her and that’ll make the difference. Of course, thinking about what flowers she would like to get is also a good thing, but I guess it applies more to situations when it’s simply a birthday gift or some other gift on an occasion. Not a dating situation, in which the flowers had better just express you because they are a manifestation on your part. Kinda.

So… take a look, unleash your imagination. Don’t be afraid to spend an hour picking flowers.

Flowers are a safe bet, but try to think outside the box-does she like Disney? How about a stuffed animal from them? Is she into music? How about a T-shirt of her favorite band?

My personal favorite first date gift? A woman gave me a figure of a Mickey Mouse in a black belt! She knew I was into martial arts. I thought it was so sweet!

I would appreciate white (for purity) or Yellow (for peace) Roses, not red yet…save those for later!
Prayers for you!

Thank you! I checked it out, and it looks interesting.

Hahaha! That’s so funny!

Yea, I think I’m going to go with white roses. Yellow roses mean friendship, which is not exactly what I’m going for here.

Red roses mean I love you, pink mean I like you, yellow I miss you, white for purity.

I would do pink or white or a mix of both 🙂

Whites can mean marriage. 😛 But possibly not so strongly over there as they do here. 😛 Regardless, go with you heart.

Interesting, maybe I will go with pink. White seems a bit, well, drab, methinks.

Haha! That’s certainly not the kind of message I want to send, yet.

I can imagine. 😉 But if you find a particularly nice bunch, I don’t think it will count as more than you finding a nice bunch of white roses. It’s not so obvious as with reds, so perhaps it wouldn’t deter me if I were the one picking. I’m pretty sure the English wild garden style whites with lots of leaves wouldn’t be taken the same way as stem and cup whites. The last time I was in a situation like yours, I went for three little bunches of alpine cyclamens (a rich shade of red - slightly different but not poorer than that of red roses) gathered together in one bouquet. The previous last time (same girl, actually, but there was a space of three years), I went for pink roses with white dressing (and crinkled paper wrapping). Yes, I know it was painfully obvious, but it was meant to be. 😉 I’m sure she got the message. It didn’t work out anyway, but heh. Probably for the better, although she was a sweet girl back then.

Looking forward to pampering another like this but heh, I’m gonna have to wait, it seems. 🙂

How about something not in the rose category at all? Like daisies, orchids, or tulips? Roses are lovely, but if you want to go for something surprising…something friendly, youthful, and fun…I think those flowers work, too. Just another idea. 🙂

I would definitely agree with keeping it simple - flowers and offering to pay for lunch are a good plan at this point.

It can be tempting to be generous too early, but it can be a little overwhelming/awkward for the other person - trust me, I’ve learned the hard way.

Good luck!

Yeah, that’s what I suggested in the first place and it stands. Besides, I’ve run into a habit of agreeing with Whatevergirl all the time. 😛 Orchids get a good reception and you can’t go wrong with exotic stuff unless it really looks odd. Sunflowers are kinda hip. Meadow flowers also make it. Don’t pick anything too big, though. And preferably no cactuses. 😛 Keep it cool.

On the other hand, if a girl is dear to you and you absolutely don’t care it’s gonna be obvious, then there’s nothing like 25 short-stemmed roses just a shy tad away from the red colour. 😛

At any rate, just unleash you imagination on those flowers. 😛

You mean like taking over the bill and paying? I’m kinda afraid that making a verbal offer might be a bit over the top. I generally just stick out a note and get done with it, though there was one hot-blooded girl that pinned my hand one day… 😛

Wow, five tongue smilies. I feel like such a jerk. 😛 Wait…

*yes, no cactuses! chev’s right! 😃 :rotfl:

I personally like cactus plants, but not every woman does. lol ;)*

Well, I kinda have to give her roses now, because she already knows that she’s getting roses. I had initially wanted to give her gerbera daisies, but since her favorite is roses, I decided to give her roses. I’m pretty sure I’m going to do pink roses.
