What should we do with leftover Christmas wafer?

One of my wife’s aunts, who is of Polish descent, stayed with us over Christmas and brought for us a package of oplatek, or “Christmas wafers,” which she obtained from her parish. (They are described and pictured here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christmas_wafer)

After grace at Christmas Eve dinner, each of us broke off and swallowed a piece of the oplatek and handed the remainder to the person on our right, with a silent blessing.

Anyway, the package contained a lot more of the oplatek than the six of us were able to use, and I’m wondering what I should do with what is left. It’s not blessed, but it doesn’t seem right to just put it in the trash.

Well, what else are you going to do with it? It will spoil in a short time. If you don’ want to put it in the trash, bury it in your flower beds.

put it in the freezer with other leftover bread and crusts for bread crumbs.

or bring it out and share it again at your next family meal, with the same prayers of thanksgiving. Christmas lasts until Epiphany, share the rest on that evening.

They are not consecrated hosts. I agree, put them in the freezer and perhaps bring some out on a family occasion or a solemnity.

Eat it, freeze it, feed it to the birds, throw it away, use it as crumbs in another recipe - it is a cookie.

they usually stay around for a while but like Castilla said, freezing is a good idea. Also its still Christmas, some families eat them every morning with honey until they run out or Christmas is over.
