People committ sins every day. Of the sins you have committed in the past, or continue to committ, which do you feel **most **guilty about.

Please - no cop outs. Only proper sins. Nothing like “I may have committed the sin of pride” or something lightweight like that.

I’d say my predominate fault is immorality. I don’t know about other people but now that it’s summer. Well…I find I need to look at the ground more than anything else. My eyes and thoughts can really wonder.

i think for most guys, it’s lust and the thoughts that pop into our heads with everything thrown at us today. And not keeping God as the first priority throughout my day. That’s two, but I didn’t want to mention one without the other.

Lack of charity. Like when someone asks what sins I confess during Confession and I respond with, “None of your business!” Why do you want to know everyone’s sins in the first place? Surely you have some of your own to worry about.

RELAX MAN!

It’s your buisness if you want to respond to a post. Nobody is forcing you to answer anything. I didn’t say I wanted to know what people confessed. I want to know which sins cause people the most feelings of regret and guilt in the first place.

Of course I have my own sin(s) to worry about??!?! Who doesn’t.

It does strike me that this particlar forum is FULL TO THE BRIM with people worrying about other peoples sins!!!

A rather personal question for a public forum don’t ya think?

ahhh… so you intend to justify your rather rude question by saying, “… but everybody else is doing it.” :tsktsk: Sad. Peace, I won’t waste your time with further responses.

Well, unless you are giving out names and adresses the entire point of the internet is that it is anonymous, thus giving people the oppurtunity to express themselves.

The point, my good fellow, is that I am not **judging **other people’s sins. I don’t consider the question rude.

I save this for the sacrament of confession, where it belongs. we have a forum rule about asking personal information.

Rage and lack of forgiveness.
It helps me to say the Our Father.

I would ask if guilt comes from God?

The one that causes Our Lord most offence.
Well how to you know which one that is???

My point is, that some people have different ideas on what is a big sin, and what is not such a big deal. I know the church has a list of sins etc, but as we all know some sins require a lot of penance, some just a few hail mary’s etc. For example: Some stealing - yes wrong - I did once when I was a kid - don’t feel guilty about it at all. I was young, there was not really any victim who was deeply wounded by this. Admiring women/lust (as mentioned above) I would put low down on the list of seriousness, whereas adultery (haven’t done that…yet…just kidding…don’t plan on it) I would put higher on the list, murder obviously on the top. get my meaning???

Forgiveness is a tough one… But I have been lucky not to have been seriously wounded by anybody such that I can’t forgive them.

In one sense I don’t do guilt. I used to but I feel like I have grown up and now realise that it is no use feeling guilty. Instead I now focus on my deep seated need for God’s mercy, my realisation that without Him I can do nothing and instead of burying my head in shame / guilt I remedy to get Confession and rejoice in the Mercy of God.

I don’t confuse guilt with contrition which is very different.

That sounds like a more constructive way to live. I have another thread called “is guilt constructive”. I’ll be interested to see what other people think.

I know some people get bent out of shape about “so what was your big sin today” but I’m kind of used to it, I’d say. I’m not yet a Catholic (RCIA starts sooo soon!!!), so I can’t confess. But I do have a wonderful Catholic friend that asks me every day- “What would you confess today if you could?”
She holds me accountable. She makes me think about it. There’s nothing “wrong” with admitting to our sins, and in my case, I find it constructive to my personal growth. I WISH I could confess. My friend often teases me “I just had the best confession today” wink wink

So far today, I’ve coveted (but only briefly! not that that makes any difference…), and as per usual, I haven’t forgiven my ex-fiance (I’m working on it, I promise!).

I’ve had acute feelings of guilt in association with sins where I most clearly knew it was wrong and had no real confusion on that issue. Also, I feel it strongly when I’m sure it caused direct harm to another person, particularly if they were a protected category (blind, widow, mentally ill, child, the weak in conscience).

But, I have inexplicable times from my youth that I can’t recall feeling guilt. I can’t imagine why. Maybe I have changed so much that I cannot connect with who I was back then. Perhaps back then I felt entitled, and I just don’t remember that part.

Also, although you said not to mention pride, I suspect I feel things more acutely if I foolishly consider that sin “beneath me” or some such rot. My feelings probably do not march in lockstep with the gravity of my actions. I have felt acutely guilty for venial actions.

I don’t have a problem talking about my past sins. I think it’s a good sign – I’ve moved past them.

I feel most guilty about the damage caused by my past addiction to masturbation/pornography. The damage that I caused to my own soul doesn’t make me feel bad anymore; that damage has been repaired. It is the scandal I caused and the damage I may have done to other people that bothers me the most.
