What sites are good?

Recently, I’ve been having my doubts about which sites that are catholic to go to. I use mainly Catholic Culture.org as a reference, catholic memes for humor, I subscribed to a video channel on youtube called video sancto, but I began noticing the commentors and some of the videos… And to me, what the man’s been posting about this one priest’s sermons is heretical. the man blatantly disregards the Church teaching on Evolution and pretty much sounds like one of the Diamond brothers. I have heard that this site desperately needs funds… and I swear, this is one of the few rational sites that I can find, everywhere else seems crazy.
 
Catholic.org is a nice website;
American Catholic is also a nice website;
phatmass.com is an interesting website more for younger Catholics;
fisheaters is a nice website also for younger Catholics.
 
I’d stay away from the Catholic Memes Facebook page. Facebook pays employees to freeze their eggs to maintain fertility, which tends to lead to multiple embryo implantations and consequently selective abortions. And, y’know, ad-revenue funds this.

You cannot expect random Catholic websites (even typically good ones) to be infallible. The only one with the charism of infallibility is the Pope and the bishops speaking together in union with him. If we have expectations that no regular Catholic can possibly meet, we will inevitably be disappointed.

But this does not mean we need to despair or hide in a hole. We need to draw closer to Christ by drawing closer to his Bride, the Church, and receiving the Sacraments that He has instituted and entrusted to Her. We familiarize ourselves with Catholic teaching from authoritative sources (like the Catechism and other magisterial documents). Then we can start to sift the good from the bad.

Honestly, I wouldn’t use the evolution thing as a litmus test for determining someone’s Catholicness. It’s a question of the science of how human beings came to be. As long as the Catholic accepts the fundamentals (that we were created by God, descended from a set of first parents who sinned thereby passing on Original Sin to the rest of us, etc.) it doesn’t much matter whether a Catholic believes that God created us via evolution over millions of years or instantaneously as though Genesis were a literal description of a seven day creation.

As much as I like Catholic Culture (and I do), they are also just a lay apostolate run by lay people. Their site reviews are useful, but not infallible. So we don’t want to put a level of trust in them that they were never meant to elicit. We’re better off putting our trust in the Pope and bishops.

I regret that I ever suggested to anyone that pewsitter.com was a good place to go for Catholic news. I still visit the website - I don’t know why :rolleyes:- out of habit, really but I’m looking elsewhere. I’m glad that Fr. Dwight Longenecker and Mark Shea have also noticed the sleazy way that pewsitter.com edits headlines showing their disdain for our Holy Father, Pope Francis. And they are making a name for themselves with their aggressive headlines and Pewsitter Newbytes. It is not enough for them to provide links to so many different Catholic news articles. They now must inject their own bias in a very uncharitable way. I liked it better when I could go to the website to look at all of the different news reports, that are submitted by many different volunteers. At least I could decide which ones to read. Now it is just one big mess and going downhill fast.
