And what do they do? (I’m not referring to singles’ groups or the Knights of Columbus.)

Various parish groups with “Society” or “Sodality” in their names used to be common in my youth, but I almost never hear of them anymore.

Legion of Mary other than K of C and Catholic Daughters is the only thing I can remember that was around when I was a kid, which is still active.

The only ones my parish has are St. Vincent DePaul Society and Holy Name Society. SVDP is membership by invitation only. The average parishioner cannot just join the group.

My parish doesn’t have a sodality, unless you count the Altar Society.

At the Cathedral, they have the Sociiety of the Sacred Heart (which meets every First Friday of the month) and the Society of the Most Holy Trinity. Some of the Catholic schools might still have the Society of the Holy Child and the Marian Club.

The diocese has several chapters of the Noctrunal Adoration Society. We also have several KofC Councils (three of which were founded by my dad), two KofC 4th Degree Assemblies (one of which was founded by my dad) and three Catholic Daughters of America chapters (none of which were founded by my dad 😃 ).
