I just bought a bunch of Christmas music from ebay…I’m listening to Celtic Christmas II, Kim Robertson, Celtic harpist, “Jesos Ahatonhia” which is the Huron Carol.

And nobody better nag me for listening to Christmas music in October. There’s no bad time for Christmas music.

There are approximately ninety million Christmas songs. If you only listen at Christmas time, you only have time for a few of the most common ones. You never hear the medieval ones or the French ones or the Celtic ones or the Belgian ones, not to mention all the different harmonies and arrangements. That’s a shame, because they’re some of the most beautiful music ever written, and for the best celebration.

This is just a ‘pet peeve’ of mine resulting from the overplay of Christmas music following Halloween and coming to an abrupt end around about noon on Christmas day.
In my youth I always found Christmas to be the highlight of the year (now the highlight is Lent and Holy Week/Easter Triduum).
Most years I am getting tired of the traditional carols, and the songs that I can tolerate, by the time Christmas actually comes. I find the rhythm of the Church calendar to be a real blessing. I like to hear music appropriate to each season in season.

I’m thoroughly enjoying getting to weigh in on the Christmas carol debate while listening to Reginatory’s Renaissance recomendation :D.
I sing along with the Roger Wagner Chorale Christmas albums in July. There is nothing like a rousing Adeste Fideles or Joy to the World in 80 degree weather-when we are so lucky as to get 80 degree weather out here…
The vocalist for Renaissance has a lovely sound. Now for that Huron Carol:thumbsup:
I do agree with the Reginator about Tridium as a real highlight of the year. I’ve been going to an E.F. liturgy forTridium for the past two years; it has been such a blessing. I also agree with the objection to the over commercialization of Christmas. I’m putting more energy into Advent this year and seeking to re-claim Christmas from the department stores.
But I do love my Christmas music (in the car and in company) and making my best joyful noise We begin rehearsing for one of the Christmas celebrations soon and I’m looking forward to hanging with the choir and learning new songs…
