what was the hymn that was played on the organ at the very end of pope benedict’s inaugeral mass (when the jeep was taking him away)?

somehow the first few bars reminded me of vampire movies, if that helps you at all.
if you take the lenth of the following onomatopoias:
duh-duh duh duh, duhhhh, duhhhhh, duhhhhh, duhhhhhhhh.
is the tune of the said bars.

Toccata and Fugue, by Bach. Since Bach has two pieces by this name, it often goes by the more specific title of “Bwv565”.

It reminds you of vampire movies because it very often used as cliche music for vampire or gothic horror movies or scenes.

I only know this because I developed a sudden obsession with the peace after I heard it after the mass myself 😃

Personally, I think Benedict was sending a message that the mass can remain faithful to the call to keep the Organ as central in Catholic music, while still allowing for cultural preference and variation for less dirge-like hymns.

Either that, or he’s warning relativists and secularists to be afraid… very afraid.
