What sort of things do you go to at Church aside from Mass

That’s neat that you’re sponsoring people in RCIA. I attended RCIA at a local university with a Newman Centre (before I switched b/c of the transportation difficulties) not long ago and they didn’t talk about how to get a sponsor. The only Catholic I knew was my Dad and I didn’t want to walk up to some stranger at the Newman Center.
It is neat. Yes, people who don’t know any practicing Catholics get assigned a sponsor. That’s me!

After Easter, I’ll probably be attending Mass on weekdays and Sundays. But I plan on getting myself involved more with the Church community since I might get my own car. I checked out Parish’s bulletin and I’m wondering what do you usually do at Church apart from going to Mass? I’m going alone since my parents don’t like these sorts of things and my parish doesn’t exactly have a thriving youth community (the closet one is an hour away).
If you’re maile, once you turn 18, there’s always the K of C.

As an aside, don’t be afraid to go to all-age events. In fact, as you mature you may be glad you did because it may stretch you more and help you feel more at home in the parish at large. Also, your presence will be edifying to older parishioners, especially the elderly, who (in my experience) commonly feel that young people don’t go to Church anymore. Just be friendly and confident and try not to let it bother you when older folks talk down a little, they mean well.*
  • this happens less at Extraordinary Form parishes because they can’t one-up you with talk about the “old days” so much 😉

Thanks everybody! I appreciate the help! 😉

What’s “Wrangling altar servers?”

It doesn’t sound like fun for the servers.

-Tim-
We are a very small parish. We don’t have a surplus of kids that are altar serving age. One of the things Father has often requested I do is to recruit kids to serve, set them up with a buddy for training and get them on the schedule. I have also been called upon to find subs at the last minute when schedules servers are missing.

Sorry if it sounded irreverent.

In the past I was a minister of hospitality/usher and an EMHC at my childhood parish when was confirmed at age 17 until the end of my college years as I lived locally (around age 22/23). I sometimes still assist as an EMHC there when visiting as my mother still is in those ministries at that church. Also, a few summers I did assist at Vacation Bible School as a younger teen.

As an adult: attending Bible Studies, Adoration, Confession, Rosary, Benediction/Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, and a few other adult faith formation type things. I did try the choir for a short time a few years ago but dropped out due to my work schedule.
