This is a discussion for a whole different forum. This touches on my political beliefs and the infringement of govt on not only individuals but businesses as well. I know the library is usually a govt entity but govts force PRIVATE businesses all the time to make their establishments handicap accessible or smoke free. In my opinion its an inappropriate function of govt. I apologize for allowing my politics to drift into this discussion. The rights of the library!![]()
I believe it does. This has nothing to do with the question though.
The question was not about providing food acceptable to the Muslim students. That seems to be a given - the school board, or whatever the higher organization is - has mandated it. This is a question about how the school will do that.I believe it does.
And that should not be allowed. The school is still required to comply with a rule that I dont believe any govt entity has the authority to require. Period. But as I said in another post on this thread I am mixing my political beliefs in with my faith and for that I already apologized. The question was not about providing food acceptable to the Muslim students. Hi. You are quite right in that you are mixing your political belief in your faith. While I can understand the principle of your political belief, I think that you have applied it unwisely here, I mean in the OP’s situation.I meant no offense although I clearly understand why you would have taken offense. What I should have said is whether or not we stand by a law doesnt make it appropriate. You wont see this since I am on your ignore list so I have no opportunity to apologize but let it be documented here, that I apologize for any offense that my comments have caused you.
You couldnt be more right on all accounts. Thank you for the reminder to maintain an attitude of christian charity. God blessHi. Providing something that we can afford to other people who need them is good Christian charity. At least based on that we should do it. I agree that if by doing so it will compromise the school’s character or putting untoward burden on it, then by all means don’t. Not to do anything at all when we can do it without affecting us unreasonably would not be consistent with our attitude as Christians - thus on that basis there is no harm in providing Halal food to the Muslims, in fact it is good to do so.
Remember there is no force nor legislature requires here for the school to do so; it is entirely based on its choice and that choice should arise from Christian charity and reasonable hospitality.
God bless.
Thanks. I hope you’d understand that it’s nothing personal.:hug1:You couldnt be more right on all accounts. Thank you for the reminder to maintain an attitude of christian charity. God bless
**Catholic schools exist for one reason only…that the children attending are exposed to Catholic values period. Our parish school has non Catholic children attending but they are in no way exempt from attending mass…who would watch them, all teachers must be practicing Catholics, no exceptions…Why would a catholic school or a school of any other religion make accomdations for other faiths? If you are a muslim or a jew and you voluntarily decided to go to a ctaholic school then you should be expected to abide by catholic beliefs. Why should the school be expected to accomodate you and not expect that you would behave in getting with their beliefs? I believe the same is true for a christian who goes to a muslim school etc etc
This is a false comparison and a politically expedient position for anyone in the minority (religious, in this case) position ; however, its contradictions are easily made manifest. To make my points : if their religious diet instructed the consumption of poison and toxins you would immediately amend your position by positing human health as being more important, which would certainly be a contradiction to your rule of thumb of following the “light within,” for you would correctly assert that no true “light” would desire man’s pointless destruction. As a Christian, you should also be aware that the Apostle explicitly warned us that the devil himself is wont to shrowd himself as “an angel of light,” in order to better deceive men ; therefore, anything that is “light” or called “light” is not necessarily the true light or the true good.As a Friend, I believe God is present in all people…and I seek to “speak to that of God” within those of other faith traditions. I acknowledge their understanding of the Eternal is different than mine…but we share the same Light Within…and it is to this Light Within that I acknolwedge.
If the Light they follow has instructed them to eat a certain diet…and it causes no compromise of my own beliefs…I will do what I can to accommodate them…“Do unto others as you would have them to unto you.” seems to be a simple…yet profound…rule of thumb in dealing with other faith traditions.
