Basing what he says on the Bible, Saint Newman said the anti-Christ will be an actual person, and that there will be “a certain frightful apostasy, and the manifestation of the man of sin, the son of perdition — that is, as he is commonly called, Antichrist."

Interesting. Newman’s ideas were similar to the Orthodox in some regards, but different in others.

Newman described “the enemy as characterized by the same sin — open infidelity — denying God”. We (Orthodox) believe he will imitate God/Christianity/Christ in every way possible but in a false and counterfeit way (like many churches today are now doing). Saint Gabriel (a recent Georgian saint) even said the Antichrist would make the sign of the cross and preach in churches, but his religion would be a very sly deception.
